I have read mixed things online whether loafers are appropriate to wear with a suit. I am tired of wearing oxfords all the time with my suits. What is the general consensus on wearing loafers with a suit? Perfectly acceptable, okay but not ideal / neutral, or definitely a no no.

I think it's perfectly acceptable nowadays.however, I'm a bit in the modern side.

I'm more traditional IF you are talking business attire, then I always go with lace ups. But I suppose on the more casual side, like suit and no tie for a night out on the town, then loafers can work I suppose.

Those are casual loafers you have purchased and while nice, I would not pair them with a suit

Lace ups with a suit. Loafers are good for slacks and a jacket.

Old schooler here. Loafers would be fine with a sport coat and khaki pants kind of pairing, but with a suit, something like cap-toe or wingtip oxford would look best.

If you want my opinion I would say yes. However I must worn you, you are getting the opinion from a man that has only worn a sport coat and tie 2 times in the last 25 yrs. Surprisingly the 2 times have been this yr alone. One time because the project I completed won the GCA 1st place award for 15 to 25 million dollars Residential housing units and the last time I just posted a pic of myself and my wife just this past weekend for a friends wedding. Do treat lightly when taking my advise! Hahahahahaha Dressed up in Hawaii is a nice aloha shirt and slacks or nice shorts depends on the occasion.

I do have some black lace up shoes that I wear with casual pants and a DB jacket.

Wear what you like! I'd say you can wear loafers with a suit, but maybe a slightly more formal pair than those, which are great shoes, but a bit casual for a suit.

You could wear those with a suit in most business situations in Australia without attracting negative comment. Maybe not in the top boardrooms or 'old school' outfits however.
I get the feeling a lot of the old 'rules' are bending.

Through the years I've seen a million lawyers wearing shoes like this with suits. I believe these are considered loafers.

Personally, I'd never wear a show with tassels, but as noted, they seem to be very popular in the business settings.

This is a great thread, the tassled loafer is largely a US fashion statement, in OZ or the UK it is laces or a high grade Monk buckle shoes for suits. That said most meetings I have been in the USA the loafer is the state of the nation, so I think the answer to the question is yes, I am sure they are comfortable but it is a fashion statement that like American football & Nascar does not necessarily travel well globally, but seems to fit well in the US boardroom.

This is exactly what I wear to work, the ones shown earlier may be too casual. These on the other hand, are a normal shoes for suit to work or weddings in countries that know how to dress such Spain, Italy, England

Have to agree with the above, two things that I always look at when someone is wearing a suit... shoes and watch, these tell a lot. Loafers with a suit is a no no in my opinion. Loafers with a casual looking sportcoat would be fine though. Maybe not the opinions you wanted but you asked!
