Thoughts on Explorer 1 - 39mm

I think all 214270's are random serial.

I like the new 39mm size too, better for my wrists. Im thinking about this or a DJ2 or a Milgauss.

I love my ExpI 39mm. I could have purchased a 36mm with my smaller wrist; however, I like the presence and newer style bracelet on the 39mm. If you have larger wrists, I think the 36mm looks too small (wears smaller than a 36mm DJ, IMO).

When did Rolex shift from the 36mm to the 39mm explorer or are they both still produced, just looking at a few on the internet for sale and the dates are all over the place I.e. 36mm with a later date than the 39mm.

The thing with the 39mm explorer 1 and the Datejust 2 is they seem to fall in the cracks. They are overpriced, and not guaranteed a classic status in the future. Just my opinion of course

I cannot see how you think the DJ2 and Exp 39 are over priced. I personally feel they represent great value for money in the rolex line up. I personally got tired of the iconic rolex look - sub/GMT, they get boring as everyone has one.

I guess ultimately it's a case of if you want to follow the crowd or not. I now strap on the explorer, I am yet to notice anyone else with one on as apposed to subs and I am pleased its not an over loved watch as less people have one. I think through time the exp 39 will become very desirable due to the fact it's not loved, in much the same way as the explorer Steve McQueen is now.

Love mine and I am wearing it everyday, for me it is just the perfect Rolex.
Of course I am waiting a diver one...SDDS...because here in the Riviera Maya I need a diver......
But my Explorer I 39mmm will still be my daily watch for sure...I hope so...

It's a subtle Rolex. And I'm OK with that.

Doubt it. Easily discounted at most ADs because it is not a popular model. Just check out the thread on sales statistics and you'll see that only the Milguass ranks lower in sales/popularity for the stainless Rolex sports models.

If you buy this new, it should be for keeps because resale value of a pre-owned Exp I is not great.

The Explorer I (39mm) has really caught my eye as of late. Dig the simplicity, clean look, and much like my Daytona, I feel that's its extremely versatile (if not more!!!). Have read about the gripes regarding the hands being to short though I haven't examined it close enough to comment.

I totally love my explorer 1 - 39mm, it's classic, has a very clean look and does not shout Rolex. In my opinion it is what an everyday, tool watch should be and do - tell the time.

I realise they are not overly popular in terms of new sales, but then most of the rolex commanding high prices these days were not popular in the day.

With regards to the "hands" I do not agree that there is an issue, I can honestly say I have never noticed it once while wearing the exp, I think it just seems to be noticeable in images.

I say the 39mm is just right. The hands look small in these close up macro shots. It is fine.

Love the 39mm version, It may be my next purchase soon! I also was considering a Sub (no date) but I already own an Omega Seamaster Co-Axial 41 mm (black). I'm afraid the sub and the seamaster may look to similar. That why I'm considering the Explorer but then my mind goes back to Sub. Argh Decisions!
