Rolex Tudor Oyster Identification
I'm a new member and hope someone may be able to assit me. A friend gave me this watch as he is almost blind and it is no longer of use to him. I'd like to identify it's date of manufacture and if possible it's value. It seems to work ok. The winder seems to be on a spring which pushes in, for what reason I'm not sure. The back of the case says "Original Oyster Case by Rolex Geneva". I can't see any serial numbers anywhere and sadly no longer has it's original band on it. I live on the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia and would appreciate anyone who could advise me on who to talk to as reading the posts here I understand the watch needs to be opened by a Rolex expert rather than a local jeweler? Many Thanks, Oysterlady. |

Welcome to the forum
The serial number will be engraved between the lugs. Any jeweler can remove the bracelet and get you a serial number. Then you can research the online resources to get an approximation of age. As far as valuation - check the rules about such things. You'll find them right near the top of the section where you just posted this request...

Thank you Georgia for your reply, I'll take it to my local jeweler. Oysterlady

My husband was able to remove the (Non Rolex) band from the watch and we found a serial number under the 6 which is 511822. There is another number above the 12 which is 7984. I've looked at sites which show serial numbers but I don't really understand how to interpret them. Can anyone help please?

Serial numbers are not an exact science, especially with Tudor watches which were not part of the Rolex numbering system.
Your Tudor 7894 is not an uncommon watch and if the hands are original it would be from the late 50's or early 60's. It is a small watch and not as valuable as other models, perhaps several hundred... You could spend a few minutes on the Internet and learn more.

Thanks Larry. I've spent endless hours on the internet but not found the exact one like this. What I am discovering is just how expensive Rolex watches are expecially is you want to buy a part like the watch band. Think I'll just get a really nice Leather band put on it and use it - who cares when it was made! LOL.
