Where to stay in/near LA, California - NC Game

I'm heading out to CA for the National Championship game in Pasadena. Not really familiar with the area so I was going to see where a good place would be to stay. Flying in and out of LAX so I was thinking that we should get a hotel nearby.

Where is a cool place to stay with restaurants, shops, etc. close by?

Stay in Pasadena or Glendale which is a few miles apart. The Langham Huntington in Pasadena is my recommendation or the Glendale Hilton which is a couple of blocks from the Amerikana

There are plenty of places in old town Pasadena for shopping and eating.

You can check this site (http://www.oldpasadena.org/) out for places that sound appealing to you. Il Fornaio is a nice place with good desserts and Mi Piace (on Colorado) is also good. Rest assured, it will be crowded, but have fun. You can always use yelp and search for Pasadena. Are you renting a car? if you are renting a car, try to stop by Porto's Bakery (315 N Brand Blvd. Glendale, CA 91203) for some potato balls.

I used to live near Pasadena in fact near the rose bowl
The vibe is good there when there's a game in the rose bowl

If you stay in the Pasadena area there's plenty to take in around old town. They've done a real good job rebuilding it.

My only suggestion is depending on what time your flight is on Tuesday, give yourself PLENTY of time to get to the airport, return the rental car, and get to your gate. If you haven't experienced rush hour in L.A. you're in for a "treat". Obviously if you stay near LAX you're more convenient to getting to your plane, but then you have to deal with driving back to your hotel after the game and any partying you do. Plus you'd be going to the game during rush hour.

Stay in Pasadena. Many hotels and Old Town (Fair Oaks and Colorado) is a great place to dine and party! The Rose Bowl is in the NW side of Pasadena, but the immediate area is great or bad (depending on exactly where you are). The adjacent area (South Pasadena, La Canada, La Crescenta, North Glendale) are generally very good.

I lived in the area while attending UCLA years ago and really miss it.

Pasadena is a wonderful place to stay. The downtown strip (Colorado Blvd) has a ton of shops, bars, restaurants, etc... Pasadena is centrally located so it's easy to get to DTLA, Glendale, etc...

Probably too late, but if you can arrange to fly into Burbank (Bob Hope) Airport rather than LAX, you'll save several hours each way when you arrive and depart.

If you can't get a hotel in Pasadena or Glendale, consider Burbank.

+2 Burbank is a lot easier to get in and out of.

That's for sure, but it is also more difficult to find convenient non-stops in and out of there, not sure about to/from Atlanta. But for places like Phoenix and Las Vegas, Burbank is the hot ticket.
