Non-authentic link?
I bought a pre-owned Daytona from a trusted source, but he was definitely not the first owner of the watch. Since it had never been serviced and needed to be polished, I sent it in to RSC Dallas. I also sent in the three extra links since it looked like they could use a little polishing as well. So RSC called me Friday to ask about polishing the links but said that one was not genuine. That got me wondering, how did it get there? Did a previous owner take it somewhere for sizing and someone switch out a replica link with a real one? If so, what's the value of a single link? Luckily for me I have a small wrist and I don't even need the two extra genuine links. But I guess for possible resale down the road, I'm wondering if they will offer me the chance to buy however many extra links it originally came with? Has anyone else ever had this problem?

Your watch fits, chuck the fake. No reason to buy a link you'll never use. Let the next guy who owns it buy one if he needs it.

I would forget it. It's weird but forget it. Enjoy the watch!

Always a little risk when buying used, even from a trusted source. But luckily it is just a link. I agree, toss the link and wear the watch.
AND since you sent it in to Rolex you know no other parts were swapped out and you are 100% Rolex. |

Sadly it happens and there's not much you can do about. Luckily SS links are relatively cheap.

Thousands of aftermarket Rolex links are sold every year, just like the bezel inserts. Many could care less as long as the watch is functional. I don't see how having an aftermarket link relates to "buying from a trusted source." The links look the same whether Rolex or aftermarket so unless you remove all the removable links out of your watch, you would never know. I've owned, and still own, many Rolex watches and have never removed the links to check every one.

Do you need the link to make the watch fit your wrist? If not, why bother buying an extra link? It is not like the SS Daytona is a collector's piece which would justify going after the complete set anyway...
