Icon13 February - short month!

For the owner of multiple mechanical watches, months like this are a pain in the butt at the end of them. I love my Rollies all the time, so I just grin and bear it when it's time to advance 4 of my watches, and my wife's DJ, ahead to the 1st of March.

Oh well, at least I have six days left before the dreaded activity!

But February is extra long this year remember, so it's half as bad. Plus, shouldn't take long to set the Daytona.

Yeah! We do get a small break this year with an extra day before changing. Beautiful collection.

On the plus side of it being a short month, it means pay day comes around that little bit quicker

I posted this before but it is a great screen saver.
http://www.patek.com/patek-philippe....dId=4&lang=en&

I would prefer to have the PATEK PHILIPPE - Reference 5159 as it knows how many days are in each month and it knows when there is a leap year.

Of course the year 2000 fooled it as every 1000 years the last year of the century is not a leap year. Patek Philippe should work on that for the year 3000.

Now for some brutally honest facts, Day-light-saving-time is impossible for a mechanical watch to adjust for. It is a man-made time and differs from place to place and time to time. Day-light-saving-time starts in the US of A on March 9 this year. My Seiko clocks of course will be automatically adjusted by the atomic clock in Colorado by radio signal.

No, you're right there, Paulie. I'll just look admiringly at it and move on to the GMT!

Isn't it a bit funny that a 5k or 20k watch can't change the date on it's own? I know that it has to do with technical stuff but when i mentioned this thing to some of my friends they were so amazed and they told me NO WAY ! ! !Of course after that they started laughing and making fun of my watch

That's annoying. $20k for a watch and I still have to set it every 1,000 years? Faggeddaboutit.

A few points:

First, Allan, I feel bad for you. If you can't send them all to Steve, I'll help you out.

Next, the year 2000 was a leap year. Had something to do with the 1st 2 digits being divisible by 4.

Last, I still don't see how waiting until June fixes the problem. On March 1st, you'll be 2 days behind. April 1st, 3 days. July 1st, 4 days. Am I missing somehting (except an obvious joke that I am oblivious to)?

Being Irish I just give the watch the seven course treatment. I boiled the watch and drink a six pack of Smithwick's.

The old joke I used to hear when growing up in the south was "what's a seven course meal for an Irishman?" Answer..."A boiled potato and a six pack of beer". The Catholic jokes were even better. Remember.....this was the late '50s and early '60's. The south was a lot different back then.

Right you are, Joe!!! I was born and raised in Florida - the 50's and 60's were my formative years. Maybe that's what's wrong with me!!!

Leap year this time, guys.....and also the year of the Olympics which start on 08/08/08 in Beijing. Leap years and Olympics fall in the same year.

Quite a conincidence consdering the number 8 is considered extremely lucky by the Chinese!!
