Wearing a Gold Rolex

How often do you wear your gold rolex (except around the house of course). I've been considering a green dial 18kt GMT. The only thing holding me back is, how often will I be able to wear it without coming off as pretentious. I know that you wear what you like and I truly don't care what others think; however, that watch is BAD and there is no hiding it.

Get what you want. The majority of people you come in contact with won't even notice your watch or know what it is. And those that do will appreciate it.

Just don't wear an unbuttoned shirt with a gold medallion, and you'll be ok. Fewer people see your watch than you'd think (fear/hope/whatever).

I wear mine all the time but it is WG. I just don't like YG but love the weight and look of the WG Daytona.

There are many gold colored watches out there; most people wouldn't recognize the real thing if they saw it.

I work in a inner city neighborhood and I do not wear it there. But I wear it to meetings with my peers and to church and when I am out to dinner at nights.

Wearing a watch that costs more than a new car is going to make people jealous. But they probably already know you are well off anyway.

My watch collection is worth more than a new car, but I don't have a car, because I can't afford one. Does that make sense?

personally i think gold watches are "out" and have been for a while, you dont see too many even in the cheaper lines anymore.
Ive worn them in the past and first things people say is " guess someones doing well! " and it drives me nuts.

Depends on your comfort level. I'll be getting a gold watch in the next 30 days and plan to wear it when I'm not working. So 2-3 times a week.

They do make a white gold GMT Master 2 and it's VERY subtle

I wear my YG GMT IIC only on weekends and never to work. I don't want people to judge me right out of the gate the wrong way. People will and DO notice a Yellow Gold watch. Nothing like a REAL all Yellow Gold watch. "Gold Fever" It takes a certain person to pull off wearing an all Yellow Gold Watch. Just my 2 cents.

That's funny, but I does not make sense in Texas...

On topic, if you like gold, wear gold. I got a TT DJ II, and the fluted bezel sparkles a lot, and I love it. see some pictures here

Some of you are over thinking this one...being a poser or pretentious is an attitude not a 'look'.
I have four Rolex - two WG and two SS. I wear my president and my gold Daytona in rotation along with the SS regardless of where or what I'm doing.
I bought them because I love them so I wear them.

Judge you how?...that you are successful and have sophisticated taste?
I agree with you but I think most people admire 'objects of beauty' and only a few resent success. Wear and enjoy.

Do you really care what they think of you and/or your watch?

I understand not wanting to pull up to work in a Ferrari (my husband never does as he doesn't think it is appropriate to do in his small company). The "real" reason-- he doesn't want his employees asking for more money . In that sense I can understand wanting to go more "low profile".

I'm getting a YG Daytona this week, and really couldn't care any less about what other people think of me for wearing a gorgeous watch.

The only bad thing about wearing a gold rolex is most bad guys know what it is. Most people who are wearing a Gold Rolex are not driving pinto. Most people wearing a gold Rolex, are dressing in better than average clothes. The accumulation of visual aids give the bad guy a fairly good idea that your not wearing a gold tone Casio. Most of us buy a Rolex for the quality it represents and a level of success we attain in life. The funny thing is the people who notice my Rolex always recognize it as a real Rolex. The people who notice it are watch people, either have a similar watch an Omega or a Tag, etc. Most don't even notice it

I had a lady many years ago ask me if my watch was a Timex because I unclogged the drain in her swimming pool, without regard for my watch. I said No its a Rolex.. she actually said she never heard of Rolex. This was about 15 years ago. Timex use to run an add 20 years ago where they submersed it in water and said it takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

I don't own a gold Rolex, but I would always be very aware of my surroundings. IM always aware of my surroundings anyway. Other factors than a watch can draw the attention of people wanting what you have. it doesn't matter where you go. Bad people can be anywhere. You don't want to wind up being a Victim... I lost my best friend to a robbery. He had only five dollars on him at the time. they caught the two kids who killed him within 15 minutes, they said the reason they shot him was because my friend was 6'4" 260 lbs. Their words, "he was to big". Lost another friend because he would not give up his 2 day old Cadillac to a car jacking. My point to this is be careful but not so careful that you become paranoid. Today you can't say anyplace is safe.
