3rd Year Warranty

Hey guys,
I believe this was the first 41mm ROC on the forum and, since time's flown by since the 40th anniversary, it's time to send it in for water testing to get that 3rd year warranty. So what's the opinion these days on:

(1) whether one should send it straight to Clearwater VS take it to the AP Boutique to send it in (I live very close to a Boutique, so no hassle there -- but heard stories of scratches happening).

(2) do you guys generally get a refinishing done at this ~2 year mark? I don't have any highly noticeable marks, but I'd like to get it refinished if it were just an issue of money, but I don't want to be too wasteful of the limited number of refinishings before bezel/case replacement is needed.

Thanks,

I just dropped mine off at the boutique. They took care of everything. No refinishing.

I sent mine directly to Clearwater. They take pics of it and send you back a description of what they received when it arrived. Polishing is all up to you though. Mine didn't need it. However, it is in the spa if you want it done...

I have sent mine directly to Clearwater and have not done a refinish nor would I unless the watch really needs one and is dinged up.

I sent my diver in on Jan 5. They contacted me the next day once it had arrived. I just had them check it over and no polishing. I received it back feb 7.

AP advised me to polish every 4-5 years as they can only do 3-4 polishes and still maintain the integrity of the lines.

Send it in yourself. Avoids any issues with damage in transit or handling by AD. Take lots of pictures before shipping.

Interesting thread, im close to NY boutique also.

I feel much more comfortable physically handing it over to boutique & getting receipt, rather than dealing with shipping?

Would it be possible to hand it to boutique & wrap it in bubble wrap or something right there at boutique counter?

No because they'll want to document the serial number and description of the watch they're shipping. Someone wrote a post a few years ago about seeing a service person at an AD holding two watches in the same hand... clink clink clink.

I don't think I'd even think about taking it to an AD to send in. AP Boutique or send myself... Was this story about an AD or an AP boutique?

If doesn't have any noticeable marks, don't have it refinished just yet.

When mine comes up I am taking a trip down to London and dropping it off in person at the APSC - am also going to explain politely how anal I am and get them to look after it!

Does anyone know if the waterproof test (for 3rd year warranty) can be done whilst I wait...or at least on the same day...or does it take longer? I'm not exactly sure what it entails to be honest - do they open up the watch?
