I use to work for a Police Auction Warehouse in which we came into possession of items from crimes, lost items, etc etc etc.
We use to get tons and tons of items that, of course, were fake. On the other hand, we also had a large percentage of them there were authentic (we had all items appraised, we could not sell fakes). I came across a Rolex while I was there in which I got my hands on. When I originally got it, it wasn't working. I thought the battery was dead (this was before I knew it didn't take a battery). I put it on and by the time I got home I noticed it was working. I took it off later that day and a few days later it wasn't working so I thought the batter was screwed up. I put it in storage where it sat for a few months. I came across it two nights ago while going through storage and I decided to get it appraised. I stopped at a little mall type place and a girl at a watch and jewelry shop looked at it. She looked at it for almost 20 minutes and then said it wasn't real but when the owner of the shops son came in she asked him. She had no idea, she basically tried to b/s me. She put in an order for a battery because it wasn't ticking....thats how much she knew about Rolex.. Getting off topic, sorry, the owners son looked over it and he explained how it works blah blah blah. After HE looked over it, he said it looked real. He isn't 100% sure, but he said it looked good. He said to bring it back Thursday for his dad to appraise and he'd know instantly. So, since I don't want to be embarrassed potentially bringing a fake to a jewelry store I figured I'd see your guys opinion on it... I'll attach some pictures and if you ask any questions about the watch I'd be able to tell you. Sorry, the lighting was bad and I couldn't get good pictures but I did the best I could. |

Looks fake to me. Don't know if that one come with that type of dark dial. What really gives it away is the poor magnification of the date.

Alas, I'm afraid it is a replica.

Oh, as for the date magnification guys it looks great on my end. There is a scratch on the top of the bubble so when I take a picture it looks like that. It blurs it.

For starters the dial and bracelet are wrong for a Yacht-Master. It's a counterfeit.

Here are a couple of quick pix. The Platinum/SS Yacht-Master has a platinum maxi dial, not a dark one. The minute hand is noticeably wider than the hour hand. The bracelet centre links are polished.
The two tone Yacht-Master has a gold bezel and gold centre links on the bracelet.

@Alcan, thanks for the examples I appreciate it. I see the differences. While I look at the wrist band, my band isn't any different then yours except that its extremely scratched up and dirty. Same with the dial, its really worn down.
The only big difference I see is the date...and yours is in great condition, lol. |

That's not my YM (I wish), but a stock photo. The first big error on yours is the dark dial. YM's with a platinum bezel also have a platinum dial.

To add to that, looking closer, the rim of the dial next to the glass is different. There is no raised up section like on yours, its flat.
