GPS transmitter on your Rolex

Is there anybody out there who've installed or heard about some sort of gps transmitter on their watch? You never know when the day comes when you loose it or getting it stolen. Having some sort of "Find your Rolex" thing would be a rather exciting thing. Imagine tracking down the scumbag who snatched your watch.

I was just playing around with the thought when I was thinking about how I would do it on my bike.

There is a watch that has an ELT on it. But don't use it unless you are lost in a downed aircraft.

Hmm, Rolex with built in locator. Seems like it's got potential. Not a lot but potential none the less. I could see it being really popular with the drug smuggling crowd. I'm sure LEOs would love it. Not that I have anything to worry about but my personal freedoms have been more than enough eroded. It'd make the watches a non-buy for me.

I'm not asking for a device already installed from the Rolex-store, meant more as in you putting your own tracker inside your own watch. We put a lot of money on our most precious belongings, and god forbid what would happen to a thief if being caught.

Well I'm just playing with the idea. I know people who retrieved motorcycles after installing gsm trackers. So why not a Rolex?

I just did quite a bit of research on asset retention using GPS devices for a fleet of trailers so I have just a little info on the subject.

about the smallest you are going to find is one that is the size of the palm of your hand, takes 4 AAA batteries and runs for about 6-7 months. I doubt something of that size will work for a rolex.

I forgot to mention the cost of the device plus the first years monitoring would cost the equilivent of 5 years of insurance on a typical stainless Rolex, and that doesn't even include the cost of the batteries ;)

Breitling Emergency. Great watch on titanium even when you're not in trouble.

Good idea but the technology is not there quite yet. Too big devices and too power consuming as is. Maybe in the future, built into the bracelet?

Probably a bit away from having the tech cheap enough to do something like this...Lojack on a car is the size of a brick...

Or you can just get insurance and have them buy a new one for you if it's lost or stolen...

That would sort of defeat the purpose wouldn't it?

So where would you keep the GPS module and battery?

TV isn't always good.

And this GPS tracking surely couldn't be silenced by the thief?

Best way to enjoy your Rolex is having it on your wrist 24/7, INSURED.

Thats only for identification purposes, i.e. for "scan use". No GPS signal transmitted as that requires a power source and a transmitter.

I work for a company that specializes in making cellular devices. I have no doubt that the ability exists right now although perhaps not yet utilized. It's present in cell phones and has been for many years. But really who needs one more chip in a watch.

Actually I just found out that mexicans are doing it on themselves. Somebody is making shitloads of money on poor people getting kidnapped.
You could probably replace a spring bar with that thing

Here's another one.

ok ,,, heres the story ,, short version ,, elabourate it yourself at the telling

friend of mine has a golf ball like that ,,, if you play it and its not hit again for five mins , it bleeps

if its not played for another five mins it bleeps , then vibrates

again , five mins more , if its not played , it bleeps then vibrates then flashes a bright red led ,,,,,

if its then not played for another five mins ,,, it bleeps , flashes ,, vibrates ,,, then , sends a signal that can be picked up by your mobile phone till you get the ball back

i thought it was fantastic , and obviously wanted one too ,,,, so i asked him where he got it ....
he said

oh i just found it.
