Explorer 39mm or submariner ND
I currently have a explorer 39mm, however lately I have been thinking about exchanging it for the last of the 14060m sub ND.
Any thoughts, I love the simple lines if the explorer, I also love the sportiness of the sub. I am torn as to what to do, and hope some opinions could help me decide. |

I guess the sub is more versatile. I would need to add some cash for the sub along with my explorer. Both are 2011 watches.

I really like the both watches, if I had to choose though I would go with the sub.
I like sporty watches and it dresses up really well. You really can't go wrong with either watch! =) |

I have the 14060M and hopefully my next Rolex will be the Explorer I. Sounds to me like you might regret flipping the Exp, maybe save for the Sub, I really think that they compliment each other. Here's a pic to whet your appetite...

For one watch I'd go w/ the explorer
It could be sporty & dressy! It's my go to watch, works well in all settings

Would my explorer plus between £500-750 be a fair deal for the sub? |

What the value of a 2011 full set 14060 - I value it around £4000, I value my explorer around £3500 2011 full set.
Would you agree? |

With both being equal and excellent condition I'd say you're in the ballpark. That's my assumption though as I'd only be able to figure in dollars... Mate!

Yes! There is no wrong answer.
First one then the other..... I'd vote for the expy first. Less common and super comfortable.

Have the Explorer, great watch. Just was at AD looking at Sub's, etc, today.
I would have a very difficult time giving up my Explorer for a Sub. It's just too versatile. Getting both is the right answer. IMHO, anyway.

I'm a big fan of the understated, no nonsense looks and functionality of a ss DJ or Exp in 36mm and really like the 38-40mm size of the newer Exp and Sub. So, I don't think you can go wrong with either, but I've got to say that I'm always impressed with just how pretty a Sub actually is. I've worn Rolex for 40 years, and if I ever had to limit myself to one watch (any brand), I think it would be a black bezel Sub or GMT in ss or tt.

Chaps
There is no definitive answer to this because we all have different values and taste. I value discretion above all else and I wanted a brilliant watch that I could wear all the time and I did not want anyone else to notice it. I therefore bought a 39mm Explorer1. It is a wonderfully discrete watch and it is for me at least, a watch that I will wear on the day that I die. A Sub on the other hand screams ROLEX and that alone will mean that I will never wear one. Having said that, a Sub is the watch that some of you chaps would sell your wife for, so it is in all honesty, horses for courses. Only the OP can decide on this one. Regards Mick |

I have both, and the Sub is certainly one of the definitive models in the Rolex line. As for versatility, I would place the Explorer well ahead of the Sub...it can be worn where the Sub looks out of place, Ian Fleming characters not withstanding. And the clasp and bracelet are an upgrade to the Sub you're considering, so there is another point to consider. My Explorer is my daily wearer, perhaps the one in my small collection not likely to be flipped.

Agree with the above, as to versatility of the Explorer. I can wear it anywhere because it flies under the radar. I like that. Were I to have a Sub (especially the C given the reflection off the bezel), I would wear it to a lesser degree. But that's just me.

Really difficult decision. You could always get the Sub and if it doesn't work out, go back to the Explorer I 39mm. I personally think the 14060M is a gem/masterpiece.

Get an older 14060m, say a Y serial, then you will get much better value.

I'm lucky to have both. Great watches...both worthy of being your "one and only" watch. That said, if I could only have one, it would be the 14060M. Both are classic Rolexes, but for me, the 14069M is THE classic Rolex.
