Do I really want a Daytona!?

I've got a sub c LV and I'm in love with it. But I constantly check out the Daytona whether it's pics or comments. I just wonder if I really like the Daytona or I just want one cause it's just so desirable.

I keep thinking about the functionality and honestly speaking I think the date function is more than enough on the sub. I used up have a speed master and barely used the chrono function.

Is it just this fever I have for a Daytona that will subside once I buy it? The Daytona wears smaller and the wrist presence is not as big as the sub.

Anybody have the same thought?

I dont think you would regret it after you pull the trigger on the Daytona. The LV is a classic piece for Rolex but on the other hand the Daytona is a milestone in the Chronograph range of the watchmaking industry IMHO.

It could be watch fever. I get it a lot. And wonder the same things. Have you had a chance to try one on a few times to be sure?

I was in the same position. Most of the pieces I currently wear are Panerai, Subs, DSSD, JLC Master series and trust me the Daytona in the box looks small, tiny in fact. But, when it goes on the wrist after a few minutes I get used to the size difference and it is a beautiful piece.
You will not regret it.

You need a daytona, but make sure it is the dial you like. I bought a daytona, but in the wrong dial choice; I sold it within 6 months. I still want another daytona, but it will be in a different dial and the one that I've had my eye on for months now.

The Daytona is incredible! Feels fantastic on the wrist. However if you breakdown and get one, keep your sub too! Together they are a fantastic pair!!!!

Yes you do. I love the wrist presence. It's noticeable, slim enough to fit under the cuff, and not as chunky as some other watches wear.

Yes.. you do. The one drawback I would say is lack of date. I can't tell you how many times I check my watch for the date only to remember that there is none. Besides that, I love it. No complaints about wrist presence from here.

If you're trying to justify buying a Daytona because of functionality then that's a hard argument to win. Rarely does the chrono get used by most owners and the lack of date makes it a less functional watch for most people that think that way. Buy it because of the way it makes you feel when you wear it, buy it because of the history behind the watch or buy it because it just looks great to your eyes. I own both and love them equally, but for different reasons.

A word of warning, depending on your age…
I had a SS White Dial Zenith Daytona…
A wonderful watch…Kept excellent time, looked great,very comfortable…
I loved it...
Ended up selling it…
Why??? Because in anything other then bright light, I had trouble reading the dial without my reading glasses…
Yeah, Yeah, okay, so I'm old…But still…
I decided it was to much money to have invested in a watch that I had trouble reading…
It's a shame as I really liked it…
I guess I just have to stick to my Sea Dwellers...

I would never pull the trigger on the current stainless steel model; the bezel is a deal breaker for me. It is a fantastic watch with the ceramic bezel; the platinum one of 2013 was a great release but unfortunately not within my range...

I started Rolex with big bad DSSD, then I added Polar Explorer II. All due to size.

However, eventually I added a white Daytona. :)

I have tried the Daytona on MANY occasions thinking I would want to own it, however, something has kept me from acquiring one. The closest I have come was almost picking up the chocolate ceramic one.

I have never owned a Daytona and I'm not so sure if I ever will. I love them on other folks just not so sure I would love it on my wrist.

This is coming from someone who owns a few Tudor chronographs

With that said I do fancy an Oyster screw down PN. Entirely different league though.

You need to try it on. And don't just try one on. Try as many varieties on as possible. Then decide if it is all hype or really worth it.

x1! From pictures and research I fell in love with the everose Daytona with the black dial. I tried it on at the AD and instantly did not like it on my wrist. I tried a few others and they just didn't do it for me. Ended up with the 116718 and very happy!

An iconic chrono, a very comfortable watch to wear, great looking watch, reliable watch, amazing wrist presence. A friend that also owns a black dial Daytona told me he feels people are nicer with him when he wears it. It's a powerful watch. I don't think you'll regret it.
