When I first got into Rolex, I loved TT's. The love kind of died though. It almost feels like a watch going through an identity crisis.
Also, a SS watch with PCLs just looks so youthful, fresh, and clean. |

It seems to me that the used Rolex market is hurting across the board-the demand seems to be a little weaker than what it once was. I see people trying to sell the same watches sometimes for months on end. Plus, with used prices having crept up so much in recent years, it's much easier to find a BNIB piece from a forum dealer for almost the same money (why spend $9900 for a used TT Sub when I can get a BNIB one for $10,500?)
I'll be honest in that it's made me a little more hesitant to pick up anything new since I like to be able to quickly move a piece if I see something new and shiny that I want, since I'd hate to be "stuck" with anything. Just as an example, I've flirted with selling my Deepsea, and some of the offers I've received from me just causally shopping for a buyer have been laughable (or insulting, depending on how you take it).

This is back, huh?
My TT DJ is my grail. I've had all YG, all WG, and several SS throughout the years but this is the only one that always sings to me. Goes with anything, always a pleasure to look at...

It occur to me that two tone models might not be suffering because people don't care for the SS and gold combo, as much as they don't want to pay for gold. The way I see it, all gold models are "unwanted" too. Not really of course, but I look at the discounts available on BNIB all gold models here and they are substantial. Bigger percentage discounts than the deals on two tones.
I just seems that as Rolex has gotten relatively more expensive, fewer people are willing to step into anything more than a stainless model, the cheapest price of entry to gain access to the Rolex club. Many also tend to look at gold in a utilitarian way and aren't willing to pay much of a premium over its scrap value for it, especially since it has gotten so expensive. And let's face it, you pay a hefty premium for the gold in a Rolex. Not as much as in some other brands maybe, but still a pretty good premium. Just a theory.

Who cares? I love them and if they are so unwanted by others it only means that they are cheaper for me.

i just bought my first ever TT watch.
i am pretty sure it is a very "unpopular" watch. BUT, i absolutely love it. i am very much enjoying this watch. a bit flashy......and yes, jewelry....and yes, i see people looking at it way more than the WG or the SS. but i am enjoying that too.

I really enjoyed my TT sub. No one called it dated. It sold quickly and for more than I paid for it 2 years prior. I paid the MSRP from 2003 for it.
An acquaintance, 29 yo options trader, loves his TT Daytona. |

Personally I have owned them all (SS/TT/Full Gold). I wasn't really liking two tone for sometime and have had a love hate relationship if you will. It depends on the mood I am in but for one major reason I keep coming back and that is the dial selection.

When I was shopping for my TT Sub they were not on sale and like all pre-owned watches there were many variations/conditions to choose from.
I enjoy my TT and rotate it with my other YG & SS Rolex watches.

I was looking to replace the band on my TT 16013 DJ and was quoted a price of 4K. WTF, that was more than the watch was worth. I decided to send It off to Michael Young instead. While I like the TT look with some things,I still prefer the SS models overall. So, that is definitely something to consider when deciding on SS vs.TT vs. precious metals.

The 116613LB with the high gloss smurf dial is a work of art. IMHO

Now that I've read all of this.....
I am buying an SS OMEGA 9300
I guess the TT Tuxedo/Bullseye Rolex that I just bought from one of our trusted sellers here should have been a stainless model. Oddly, I wore a two tone GMT from 1983 until 2004, and have worn stainless, TT, and solid gold over the years. If I felt that I could make sense of buying solid gold (not that I can't afford it, but I'm in my 60s, and every gold watch is a year's worth of property taxes here on the ocean) I would. But two tone gets most of the same effect as solid gold for a much lower price. My plan is to wear SS for my daily wear (I wasn't kidding about the Omega 9300 Speedy) and either keeping my TT Datejust, or trading that for an older DD in solid gold befitting an old guy like me. So in thinking about it, I've concluded that in 34 years of wearing over 70 different watches, that SS, TT, and 18K all work just fine. |

I have worn various SS Roman numerals rolex's with various dials for the last 20+ years and now will be flipping my 116234 for a TT 116233 silver index dial.
There is just something about this watch that I fell in love with over my SS |

Couldn't agree more, love this watch! l like my stuff, whatever that stuff might be, to be a little different. Not way out there different, just not trendy and the same thing everyone else has.
