Help me decide, BLNR or 16610LV

I really love the new maxi/chromalight dial and my first modern rolex is going to have it but I have mixed feelings about the new, more aggressive case design. I love the look of both of these watches but I can only get one for the foreseeable future.


(to the members who's watches and pics these are I hope you don't mind me re-posting).

I will have to find a slightly used or NOS 16610LV but that is not an issue to me but neither is the higher price of the BLNR. I do plan on replacing the bezel/insert with black since I'm just not fond of green.

I'm sure a few of you out there have and wear both, does the chunky case of the BLNR bother you? Does it wear noticeably larger than the LV? Is the LV case back as thick as the ceramic sub? I've test driven my friend's and I felt the higher case back really made the watch balance poorly for me but the lower GMT IIC seemed fine. I like the GMT function but my interest in the BLNR is more about aesthetics and the durability of the ceramic bezel Vs. the elegance and all day wearability of the original oyster case. I work on average 12-14 hour days so this is a major factor.

That's really a tough call. I have both and I hope I'm never put in a situation where I'd have to choose one versus the other. The BLNR is a little heavier, but they are both comfortable to wear. It may come down to the different attributes of each in helping you with your decision (all brushed bracelet vs PCLs, dual time zone vs single time zone, maxi case vs traditional case, etc).

The BLNR is new to me (had it for around a month) and it's been getting the majority of wrist time.

You cannot go wrong as both are tremendous timepieces.

If the only Rolex sports model in your stable, I would vote for the LV. The BLNR is really nice, but, IMHO, it's less versatile with the black/blue and PCLs.

BLNR for sure. Don't believe those who say it's less versatile. Plenty of photos and posts that suggest otherwise.

If you choose the LV isn't better to just choose a 16610 since you're considering to replace the green bezel? Or go with a SubC?

Just cannot see the point of buying a 16610LV if you are going to change the insert from its normal green to black.And I have a few watches over 20 years old used and abused as working tools yet the aluminum inserts look almost good as new.Myself would not say the ceramic insert is anymore durable in the real world.But if you did scratch the ceramic and yes they will scratch like most things.Trouble then so expensive to replace and not a DIY job.While the black aluminum inserts cost around $75 and now the LV green aluminum insert is now $300 and only Rolex will change them.And IMHO the high price of the green is mainly down to those who swap there inserts on a 16610 from black to green and visa verso.

BLNR. It dresses up or down just fine, and in most indoor lighting the blue is pretty understated and not noticeable, but in sunshine, it's very noticeable in a beautiful way. It's plenty versatile. Also, I like having a second timezone. The PCLs have grown on me.

While I prefer the Sub as a watch, I also like a pop of color on my watches (thus my green dial and bezel).

But if you prefer the black Sub, then perhaps a pop of color is not your preference. The GMT displayed above is more eye-catching, because of the bezel IMO.

The BLNR uses the same case design as the new SubC it's just slightly thinner so why pay for an LV and change the insert when you could get a SubC for about the same price.

When you get a LV, you are getting the maxi dial that doesn't come on the 16610. What is also nice is that you can swap out the inserts. So it is a bit more versatile.

The LV does have the maxi dial like the SubC but doesn't have the wider lug width (shoulders) that new ceramics do.

This also matters to some owners.

I'm in a somewhat similar place deciding between BLNR and 116710 black bezel GMT Master II. I can get a gently used 116710 for $2K less than the BLNR. It will be my 1st and likely only Rolex for a long time. To afford the BLNR I will need to delay purchase for several more months... and since there is little discount on the BLNR and few being resold, I likely would just spend the extra $500 or so in taxes and get through the local AD. I'm torn about spending an extra $2500 to get half a blue bezel and blue GMT arm (and associated benefits from a local AD purchase). It makes little logical sense but if I keep this watch for decades... an heirloom, will I always regret I did not wait the extra few months to afford the BLNR?
