Mad Or What?

Was I mad or what? I traded my 2003 DJ 16200: (shown below on leather strap)

For this 1990 DJ 16220:

Okay, the above trade would have been a mad move on my part. But, after a full service and new parts:
  • Dial
  • Hands
  • Crystal
  • Crown
  • Oyster bracelet

The 1990 DJ 16220 now looks like this and has a two year service warranty from Rolex:

(photo from jewellers site)

Photo taking yesterday morning after getting the watch and having it put on a leather strap:

Just curious, why didn't you just change out the dial, etc on the old one? Only other difference I see is the bezel.

Having recently purchased a GS, I was hankering after a blue dialled GS, and the fact that 16200 did not have a railroad track on the dial was driving me crazy.

I had been looking into getting a blue dial fitted; however, I was informed that Rolex would only change the dial if I had a full service carried out by them, the service and new dial would have cost in the region of £900.

It actually cost the jeweller that I got the watch from, roughly £1750 for the service and new parts. (The bracelet on my 16200 was original and showing its age, but the bracelet on the 16220 is brand new)

You now have a more classic DJ. The Arabic dials work best in less formal setting for my tastes.

gorgeous!!

just to understand, did you trade your 03 DJ for the revised one with oyster bracelet? or, did you trade for the 1st one and then had it overhauled?

Just To Make Clear

Sorry if I misled, I did not buy a watch and change all the parts. I traded my 2003 DJ 16200, for a 1990 DJ 16220, which the jeweller had already, had serviced and new parts fitted by Rolex before I did the trade.

The three photos show what the 1990 DJ 16220 looked like before the jeweller had everything done; I was trying to show what is possible, when someone thinks a watch is beyond saving or repair.

What a good looker; perfect for a WIS! Wouldn't want a watch without minute markers.

I must admit that a lack of minute markers can make it hard to set the right time....have to wait until it's right on the 5, 10, 15, etc.
