Help With 1953 Everest Explorer
I have this Rolex Everest Explorer that I can't find any information on? I know it's a 1953 and model 6350. The dial is original but can't any other like this one. Can anybody give more info on it? Thanks

Yes, for one thing it's missing the bezel and case back...

Here is one of the holy grail watches for the Explorer line. My 14270 that's currently in the safe says hello to the great one!

never seen this dial " live " ...
and the only one I have found in my records it's this 6350 proposed ( but unsold ) by Antiquorum in a NY auction on 09-24-2003 :
due to the very small pic and also for the " SWISS MADE " printing at 6 ( instead of " SWISS " only as in all explorers seen ) it's registered in my records as " dubious ". however the very same layout and indexes were used in another explorer : it's a 6298 with matt dial ( pic courtesy of my friend O.E from Wien ) ; this watch is older than 6350 but it's signed " SWISS " at 6. so a much bigger picture of your watch would be necessary and kindly requested ( by me .. LOL LOL ). another question : the number " 820 " engraved in the back-inside corresponds to the 3 last digits of the case number ??? |

Yes the "820" is the last 3 digits on case serial number. Here are a few more pictures of the dial.

Hi Albert, I'm afraid I don't have any history, sorry. I've always been a fan of the Explorer I. This as I understand is a rare model. I've tried to find some info in my 'History of Rolex' book. If I uncover anything, I will reach out to you. It's a BEAUTY!!!!!

I'm no expert, but according to the Rolex website the Explorer model was launched in 1953, with a photo showing a typical bubbleback with a black face and Mercedes hour hand; nothing at all like your watch. Also, a model 6350 is a typical bubbleback, again nothing like your watch.

I don't see anything dubious.. instead I really like it as it is!
Most interesting are the 3 digits engraved in the case back making it a special delivery, maybe for a expedition for testing use. Is there anything you know about the history? Rgrds.Philipp |
