Help - lost my Sub Bezel & insert

Well - it was a beautiful Memorial day weekend at the cottage...many jobs undertaken...getting dock in the water, launching boats, planting flowers cleaning yard, smoking KC Style ribs....the best! Sadly at some point, I must have knocked my watch (a U Serial No date Sub) or caught the bezel on something. I looked down and the whole thing was GONE! Now I need to start the process to replace. I do not really want to use the RSC because of time and expense. Ive used the gentlemen in LA - is it ABC Watchworks? What was his name? Any other suggestions on how to replace this bezel?

Sorry for your loss! I'd take the RSC route as the watch is not vintage and I don't know the price but doubt a bezel and insert would be much more expensive than sourcing privately.

You probably have some certified watchmakers locally who also have a Rolex parts account. That would be more convenient perhaps.

You probably have done this already, but recheck every nook and cranny on the boats and other things where it might have hit a hard surface. Even a mask and snorkel excursion underneath the dock might be worthwhile. Hopefully you can find it - it always seems that lost things are found in the last place you'd think about looking...good luck!

Dalton, ABC Watchwerks, good choice if you ask me. In the last 2 years he'd done all 3 of these babies.

Oh No Sorry to hear... That said it sounds like you had a wonderful weekend and for repair I would suggest ABC and the next would be RSC for me

I had that happen with my GMT about 35 years ago while working in the yard. I bought another bezel and insert from the local AD at a relatively low cost, but found the lost bezel/insert several years later. I now have two, both nicely faded and worth quite a bit of money now, so you might look around the area thoroughly. I feel certain you've already done that, though.

Local Jeweler in Detroit suburbs who handles Rolex just quoted me $1200 for replacement and full service which they require (?) when doing this type job. Seems excessive to me. I don't need a service, the watch runs great. Oh well...thank goodness for this forum and for Dalton. I have an email into him now. He actually service the watch about 4 years ago when I picked it up used. Fingers crossed.

Did you insure the watch and list it as a Scheduled Item on your homeowners policy? If yes, then the repair should be covered 100% with no out-of-pocket cost to you.

Good luck,

David

Seems like a casual day walking about with a metal detector, (begged, borrowed, bought or rented), May be in order. Like they say about the New York Lottery, " Hey, you never know."

There are after market bezels as well that can be used if you are worried about a repeat. I thought I'd lost my insert and found it next to my bed, thank goodness. Good luck with the replacement.

That's just nuts.

He'd never touch my watch again.

I couldnt come to terms with the big ask for the authentic Rolex replacement parts, so I went with an aftermarket version for a lot less ( but still costly for what it actually is ). It looks good but I had a hard time getting the click spring to function correctly. It will suffice for now, but knowing I'm not 100% Rolex is detracting from my enjoyment. I'm hoping I'll come across the missing Bezel and insert at my cottage where I lost it. It has to be there someplace! Crazy and frustrating.

I read somewhere that they stop the watch between takes for continuity purposes.
