Choosing my third Rolex
Hi everyone,
Am potentially looking at getting a third Rolex and want to see what else everyone is doing with their collection and what they have kept or flipped to make their collection work. Currently I have the DSSD and the SD4000: The collection at the moment is as follows: - Rolex DSSD - Rolex SD4000 - Breitling Navitimer 125e - Breitling Airwolf: - Omega Speedmaster 50th - Omega PO9300 - Zenith Stratos Striking 10th I also have several G-Shocks for daily wear and for discretion purposes. It would make sense to add another Zenith to the collection but am holding out for the Tag Heuer Monaco 24 calibre 36, as this uses the same movement but in a square case. However this is still quite a costly watch and I have a feeling in a years time LV might decide to use the movement in a better design. Am dismissing the Daytona S/Steel as they're difficult to get hold of new and am not prepared to pay a premium. The size doesn't appeal to me either and am hoping in 5-10 years Rolex will update the design again as they did a couple of years ago. The BLNR GMT appeals to me due to the colours of the bezel and the rarety of the model, but the cyclops puts me off, and the pcl's would take a beating as they have done on the Zenith. The Hulk uses a shade of green that I'm not a fan of. The brighter shade of green on the bezel of the older LV was much better IMO. My mind is set on the Submariner Non Date, as the symmetry of the dial and lack of cyclops appeals to me. The bracelet is the same as the SD4000 unless someone can correct me, which is a great feature to have as you can adjust the watch whoever you want. Although not very easy to find, I can have a brand new one on my wrist by Tuesday/Wednesday with an extra years warranty and a free service when required. Does anyone have three ceramics in their collection? Would they feel a bit 'samey' with small differences or do they work well in rotation together? A DSSD, SD4000 and SubC ND?

My choice would be to add a GMT model.

I agree. GMT model will nicely complement your collection. Many people love the Exp II and even more people like the GMT IIc if you want to stay with Rolex.
By the way the PCL can be brushed by pretty much any qualified jeweler. I had mine brushed and it looks great. |

The Sub C would make the perfect Rolex ceramic diving watch trifecta.
Super collection by the way! |

You have the "tool" watch spectrum covered except for GMT. But maybe begin to branch out into a "dress" model? Datejust, Day-Date, Cellini for example.

As you prefer no Cyclops and the Subc is similar to the other SDs, how about the Exp1 as a more dressy sports watch?

Since you have two fantastic tool watches, I suggest you get something a little more dressy like a DJII. If you want to stay with the sportier watches you should consider a YM.

White dial 'Polar' Explorer II would get my vote :)
Out of interest given they are so similar which gets the most wrist time between the DSSD & the SD4000? |

It's almost as if you bought the same watch twice.

I think it would be very cool to add the 114060.
Wears nice and thin compared to your other divers. I've got the 114060 and have been debating adding either the SDC or Deepsea. |

obviously, one should get whatever they like most - for me, i dont think its a question of too much ceramic, as it is too many divers if i was thinking of going the Sub-C route

My own opinion is that you are buying Rolexes that are very similar in appearance and function. I don't see the point myself. If you want a SUB anyway, buy a bluesy TT or all YG, a Hulk (the Green bezel if quite bright in the light and in the sun the dial is stunning).
Unless you have 9 inch wrists, not sure why you are ruling out the Daytona based on size. The giant watch trend will end, and the Daytona is perfectly sized for most wrists, and you can get good deals on this site. Just something to thing about. |

So many replies, thank you! Hopefully my AD will have the SubC ND delivered today and I can compare it to the SD4000 on my wrist.
After seeing the black bezelled GMT, I think the GMT hand would annoy me after a while as it wouldn't serve any purpose, as would the cyclopse. Thank you. The normal SubC seems to be the 'obvious' choice of Rolex for most, which is why I want something different. The ND model has symmetry and lack of cyclopse, while being 'rarer'. Quote:

Will have a look at it in person again :) Quote:
An actual dress watch would not get worn very often at all and it would be wasted. Quote:

The second hand of the Milgauss doesn't appeal to me, although the LV green bezelled one was on my list a few years ago. The DSSD and SD are very different watches in person. Looking at the catalogue pictures of the face alone you could say they were similar. But when you handle them, the size and thickness make them feel like different watches. Quote:

I have too many chronographs in my collection already :) But a white faced one is on my list for the future. Quote:
The Hulk is nice but it doesn't shout out to me like the BLNR does. The Daytona does wear small but thats relative to my other watches which are fairly large. I'm still hoping to get one, just not at the moment.

Choosing my third Rolex
Or Exp1 or Milgauss GV The DSSD and SD4000 are already kinda similar adding another black ceramic bezel is way too redundant IMO. Edit: just saw your replies. Sounds that you already considered other options and have your mind set on the Sub. I still think it's going to be very similar to your other Rolexes. But who cares, you like it. I've seen guys with 10 Subs and they are happy with it. |

I might give the Exp1 another look but to me it seems too 'plain'. Milgauss doesn't do it for me with the second hand, the green tint of the crystal looks great though (on the LV)

Edited my post. Go for the Submariner or try another brand. Many JLCs, Cartier Caliber or tank MC, IWC Ingenieur come to mind. |

this to me at least seems redundant, especially if you go with a ND sub, so a GMT or DJ? Personally with what you have a Daytona would be perfect!
