Whenever I see cyclops on a Rolex, I feel Rolex is targeting only old people as their customers! I know that sounds rude/wrong but why do we need magnifying glass to see a date which is not even half feet away from you? I have some watches with 36mm with date and even on them half glance is enough to see the date, don't even need to spend a second to see the date.

Is every other watch company in the world and their customers are 'struggling' to see dates on their watches? I don't think so!

Chaps

I bought a 39mm Explorer in January because of its purity of form and simplicity. It told me the time and that was all I wanted.

I wanted a couple more Rolexes because I had got the bug and the one thing I did not like about Rolex was the cyclops. I considered that it attracted attention in the sense that it screamed Rolex and was a trifle vulgar.

However I was offered a very clean dated Sub last month and I was unhappy with the cyclops and at one point I was going to put it in the safe and leave there.

However I have become used to it and now I tolerate it. I still wish I had bought an undated sub as it looks a hell of a lot cleaner.

The one thing I have noticed about the Sub that it does attract a few glances, which I hate whereas the Explorer went totally unnoticed. I suspect the cyclops is partly the reason for that.

Strangely enough I rarely use the date function.

Regards

Mick

I used to think the Cyclops was a gimmick, but it works real well. On the GMT Master II it is the only part of the crystal that has an AR coating underneath, so I can see the date at all times, just not the time.

You can remove or have removed the cyclops if you're brave enough as it's only glued onto the sapphire. Do a search for it and you'll find how to's. Or you could see about buying a sapphire without the cyclops and have it installed.

I would love the Sub Date if it didn't have the Cyclops. I really like the Omega design without the Cyclops.

Love the cyclops on my SUB, but you can always let the AD put the 114060 glass on your 116610 SUB. It is a modification often done.

Problem solved, moving on....

I agree the ND looks more balanced but I love the cyclops. It's useful, classic, beautiful and a perfect mix of form and function.

I know I couldn't do without the date function.
As firthe cyclops I'm sure you will get use to it.
To me the cyclops is part of what makes a Rolex I'm legally blind so I love it

I had a watch with a date for year. I have to sign and date things every day. using my watch to keep track of the date wasn't, and isn't, necessary or helpful. I see my calendar on my computer and phone every day. having said that, i do like the cyclops on my GMT II if I am going to look at the date. As a tool, the cyclops adds some usefulness with the date but I prefer the cleaner lines without as a general appearance of the watch.

Man, you said it yourself. Get the original Sub. You can discover the date from many different sources. At work I prefer a date function but I'm already saving for my days off 114060.

I love and use the Cyclops every day. Of course I'm no longer a spring chicken, but I've enjoyed and used the Cyclops even when I was.

In a few years you will see the benefit of the Cyclops and will be trading off the watches without them.

The Cyclops DOES grow on you...like a tumor. Can't read it unless looking directly on.

I've just flipped my blnr for a Dssd, i've got 7" wrist but I think the watch suits me perfectly, without the Cyclops the watch looks much smoother and clean!

Both. Young people can have bad eyesight as you know.
As you age your sight goes some. Even young folks can use the Cyclops.
I was 2020 with glasses but it was faster to use the Cyclops. Then bifocals came.
Then cataracts. Now 2020 again, but still like the Cyclops.
If you live long enough you'll appreciate the Cyclops.
So they ain't just for old folks.

I like it.

Used to have an Omega Seamaster Pro 300 and have to admit that I was was a bit sceptical to the cyclops when I got my Sub. After a month of daily wear I must say I really like it
