Rolex GMT 16753 Bezel Inserts

Hey Guys:

I have been cruising the internet looking at GMT's Ref 16753.

They came with either the TT Jubilee or the TT Oyster bracelets.

However, the inserts seem to be random: either black with silver numbers or black with gold numbers....on either the jubilee or oyster bands....

Any reason on which insert they came with?

Hi John, all the ones I owned in the past were either whitish silver or gold.
The very last pic of yours looks to be one from the 16758.
I have seen more jubilees than oysters on these.

I have seen the inserts both ways, factory new - with either silver numbers or gold numbers on the inserts. My GMT II, 16713, which I purchased new, had the silver numbers on the insert, not gold.

I think I prefer the gold numbers but the silver is a balanced color on the Two Tone...

I had my black 16753 serviced a couple of years ago and it had a fat font silver numbered insert which I believe was original. I removed it before the service and put on a damaged insert so I could get a new one from Rolex. They would only put a black insert on it with gold numbers as this is what they said was correct.
Based on this I would think service replacements probably have the gold numbers and originals have silver numbers.

I think the 16758s originally had gold numbers rather than silver so they could have been mixed and matched on 16753s.

I don't think the dial type matters as Rolex made both types of inserts. My guess is the early 16753s came with silver numbers but AD's were happy to mix and match to sell a watch or a replacement insert.
Based on my recent experience I would think Rolex replaces all the 16753 inserts with gold numbers. Or they could have just been out of the silver

Thanks for all the comments; I ended up winning an online auction for a 16753 with a silver/black insert and a jublilee bracelet.

As soon as it arrived, I swapped out the silver for a gold numbered insert. I think is definitely upgrades the look with a little more gold on it...
