FS: Rare Vintage 1960s Breitling ref. 7650 Co-Pilot “Yachting” Chronograph

Got this beauty in a trade but just not connecting with it like I thought I would so time to make someone else's dream come true...

Up for sale is this very uncommon and original circa 1969 Breitling reference 7650 Co-Pilot in rare "Yachting" configuration. This colorful and large Breitling chrono features a beautiful and complex matte black dial and a specially modified version of the seminal Venus 178 that has the minute register count to 15 rather than the standard 30 units. It is in overall Excellent vintage condition with a Near Mint dial. While service history is unknown, all functions are running well on this all-original beauty. It's very hard to find Co-Pilots in general and this short run version with the 3-registers, classic pre-Jumbo case, silver bezel and yachting configuration is extremely scarce. So this is a very nice piece for the advanced Breitling collector.

The asking price for this great Vintage Breitling 7650 is $5850 USD OBRO including fully insured FedEx shipping worldwide. Bank Wire only on this transaction please. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.

CASE & BACK: This bad boy measures a large 43 x 49mm not including crown and is 13mm to the top of the flush fit crystal. The heavy all-steel case does not appear to have ever been polished and still shows its original bevels and contrast satin-polished finish. There are scratches and some nicks commensurate with a regularly worn 45-year-old tool watch and there is some slight superficial rust between the lugs that could be removed by a good watchmaker -- Excellent vintage condition overall. The outer part of the screwed steel back has some scratches but shows its original Breitling nomenclature of the period including the 1.27 mil serial number, which indicates circa 1969 production, and correct 7650 reference--also Excellent original cosmetic condition. The inner caseback shows no real corrosion and has the correct internal "handmade"-style Breitling engraving of the era.

BEZEL: The chunky rotating black & silver yachting bezel is correct and original and in Very Good condition with some loss of the black to the anodized knurling. As you can also see, the original red portion of the inlay has completely faded out with age, as have its white printed numbers. The bezel itself rotates with good tension in both directions as designed.

DIAL & HANDS: Absolutely Near Mint matte black dial with white printing and finely calibrated track and only the minor imperfections visible under a loupe, primarily some light surface dust that could easily be blown off. All original peppermint-colored Tritium luminous "12" and bar hour markers are present and the silver-white engine turned subdials are bright, as are the red-white-blue five minute calibrations on the 15-minute counter. Correct fluorescent orange hour & minute hands are Very Good+ with the minute hand having lost some of its original luminous fill. The green arrow chrono sweep seconds hand is Near Mint as are the small black counter hands and the orange arrow-tipped minute counter is Excellent with just a trace of spotting to its tiny original luminous fill.

CROWN & PUSHERS: Signed Breitling crown looks very clean and winds and pulls out to the time-setting position as it should. It sits tightly against the case. The two pusher caps are likewise in Excellent shape and both chrono pushers work as they should and also nice and crisply.

CRYSTAL: Large flush-fit acrylic crystal is Excellent+ with only some minor scratches and no deep marks and sits barely proud of the bezel, which I believe to be correct for this model.

MOVEMENT: Legendary Venus 178 chronograph movement with 15-minute modification is looking bright and working well with all correct Breitling nomenclature of the era and shock protection. While I don't know the service history of this watch and it may need a service in future, it is keeping good time with a strong power reserve and all chronograph functions are working properly and returning to zero. This is guaranteed to be the case at the time of shipment.

STRAP: This classic Co-Pilot "Yachting" chrono comes on a nearly new black leather strap with matte crocodile pattern and wide steel buckle in Near Mint condition. This watch takes 22mm straps.

I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form due to its age and the dodgy water resistance of most vintage chronos in general.

This great Vintage Breitling is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer. This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.

Thanks for looking,
T.
