Panerai PAM 311K

Hi, guys

i have an opportunity to get a Pam 311K on a trade. I have been thinking of getting my first panerai but i dont know anything about them and still learning. What would be a first basic Panerai to own. How can i learn more about 311K and how good of a seller are they. Sometimes i do tend to flip watches quickly.

Thanks in advance.

The 311 is a great watch, I would not consider it an entry level Pam, if you want entry level they are the 000, 005, 111, 112.

That is a good question, it is a $20k+ watch, limited to 500, I have been watching the for sale sections on here and other PAM sites and most of the for sale Pam's are the lower cost ones, 000, 005, 113, the RAD's, etc, there is a buyer for everything, but if you were looking for a quick flip this may take longer, $20k is a lot to pay. The 311 does have an in house movement, the entry level Pam's have ETA movements.

The 000, 005 series usually run around $4000 +/-, new they are $5200.

I personally like the plain look for a Pam, I also like the seconds hand.

They are my opinions, I am sure someone on here with mre expertise will give you some advice too.

Yup 20K is not chump change to fork out. I am sure used ones must be much less. I don't mind holding out on the watch for a little while. As long as i don't end up taking a crazy beating on the watch if and when i want to sell.

What would be the market price for a 2008 311K serial in mint condition.

Again thanks for your responses.

Icon3 311 is a keeper if you plan on keeping it!

I love the 311 (but maybe the 275 a little more), it's a beauty in terms of a nice in-house complication nicely showing off the column & balance wheels as well as having the (now) rare monopulsante (single pusher) configuration. [EDIT - let's not forget the 311 also includes an 8-day PR!!! ]

However... my bet is that it has a lower turnover rate due to price first & foremost and secondly due to the fact that many associate (and prefer) Panerai with simple complications and clean dials.

I'm a middle of the road kind of guy, the 368 & 345 and pretty much all of OP's Tourbillions as well, being excellent examples of impressive complications hidden by a clean dial

It's a beautiful watch but I can't find a practical use for the 311, I'd get a 233 instead for a lot less money. The 311 would be harder to unload as well IMO.

I agree with all of the advice. That would be a hard piece to move because of the price. For reference, I did a quick search on chrono24:

http://www.chrono24.com/en/search/in...esultview=list

14k to 19k

I have a 311 and it's one of the most incredible PAM's you can buy. Retail may well be 20k+, but who pays retail?

Buy used but in good condition for anywhere between $12500 and $14k depending on who is selling.

IMO, they're worth about $13k used. Does not really matter what year with the 311. All the same and only the condition will differ.

Not to resurrect an old thread, but I am considering a PAM 311 or a SS black face daytona. I have a few rolexes already, I've tried on the 311 in person and it's the first and only PAM i've liked. Seems like you may find a 311 for around 12k, a V daytona for $9700. The 311 is alluring because it's something different.

I am going to sell my Z series Submariner with open papers and I am thinking about either the daytona or the 311 to replace it.

Any new thoughts to add?

If you pay over $10k for a 311, you will be upside down when you try to sell it. It has terrible resale b/c it is a GMT without a date, a pretty useless complication.

Well, that doesn't help the 311's cause. Anyone else care to chime in?

I agree ... Seems like a watch with too much overhead.

I'd frankly not become familiar with it till I read the thread.
Seems like panerai overshot the marketplace. The watch should
Have a retail price from $11-13k for any real sale potential.

It's not like that... I was bullish on 311 and 275 myself because I thought they were unique and interesting enough. Bought them at a respectable discount from a dealer brand-new. Lost a little money on the 275, got absolutely killed on the 311. Only bright side was that it went to a really good dude, a TRFer, who wasn't planning on reselling it, just strapped it on and wore it.

My thought on it is if you keep it, it doesn't matter ... and if you enjoy it for a while and then lose some cash ... that is fine in my book as well! Such a beautiful watch!

Out of curiosity ... why do you think GMT without date is useless?

Well - it is not just me, the absence of a date function seemed to be the main reason why clients didn't want this watch. If you're traveling somewhere with only a few hour difference - I suppose it doesn't matter, but if you're using a GMT function for significant time differences, it would definitely help to know the date. GMT is made for a person on the 'go', a jet-setter. It's like having a chronograph without the second counter - just minutes and hours. One essential function is missing.

Thanks for the feedback. You know, I still like the watch a lot. It looks great on my wrist. I prefer wearing my DJII or my SubC over my milgauss because they have date and the milly doesnt. The 311 would have the same problem. But again, I really like the look.

I guess it really depends on how much you get one for. Seems like Mosco may approve for 10k. :D lol

What about the 233 as someone else mentioned? It has a lot going for it and resale has been stable for quite some time. GMT with date, dome crystal, 8 day in house movement. I guess depends how much you want the chrono complication. I also prefer simpler dials for panerai though.

Let us know what you decide on.

Looking at the 233 in pictures, I much prefer the look of the 311. I'd have to try on the 233 and it's nice that it has a date.

First things first I have decided to sell my Z series Sub. I may have a buyer lined up. Once I sell that I'll decide!
