Help need repair Rolex dealer refused.

Hey guys bought a new GMT II BNLR in January and the other day I was moving some things for the wife and caught the right side shoulders on the granite worktop (underside edge) its made a nasty scratch in the SS and I am gutted.

Phoned local Rolex dealer and they said it cant go back to Rolex until it is time for its 5 year service?

Anyone know a way around this or a good reliable repair company I could trust to do this job.

Stay away from this dealer in the future. Complete BS. You can send it to RSC for a polish or use a well recommended independent watchmaker.

Thank you, just found the UK service center number on the rolex site, I will give them a call tomorrow. Just took their word for it :(

I decided I would wear the watch and just take whatever knocks it had (my previous Rolex I only wore when going somewhere special which meant I never wore it). But a little gutted at the main scratch, the other fine scratches on the bracelet I can live with as you cant wear a watch without getting fine scratches on stainless steel.

Send it to ABC watchwerks They do the best case finishing around. They will make it look new. There are many people here that can vouch for them including me.

Seriously though, I agree with Adam. I don't think it looks that bad in the grand scheme of dings, dents and scratches.

RSC would definitely look at it. Why wouldn't they? Just bypass the dealer that gave you that incorrect advice.

Now that you have offically "made it yours" wear it daily and enjoy. In 5-7 years when it's time for service you can decide if you want it repaired or not.

You can take it in to the Service Center any time that you want. They might not do the work for you, or you may not want to pay the price. Rolex would likely take the watch apart to properly refinish the case contour and that would definitely be a very pricey fix for a somewhat minor issue..

You could find a reputable watchmaker (I want to repeat reputable) who could minimize the look of the scratch without fatally damaging the case.

I would do the same as you and try to get over it as it's not in a very visible location and likely will be softened in no time at all. Bummer, but not critical..

An AD worth a darn will polish your watch at no cost if you bought it there.

I agree that scratch is not that big and any good AD should have taken care of it. I've polished allot of metal in my day and I would do it myself, but its something you have to learn how to do. For a good watch man, its not that hard to at least make it really hard to see.

As others said in the future stay away from that AD. RSC in UK will take care of you

It's not that big a damage imho, wear it a bit longer and if it still bothers you than have it fixed. Your AD has obviously never heard of Customer Satisfaction. Load of ignorant BS is what they sell you.

First of all, don't send it to the USA unless you don't want to see it again due to customs restrictions.

Your AD either doesn't want to pay for shipping or they are trying to discourage you from a service. Either way they should have been honest.

Have to agree and would expect will get a few more in its life, and all scratches are just fact of wearing.Now if anyone can not get over this fact of wearing and getting scratches then just leave the watch in its box.Now all scratches are best left till normal routine service time only.As if anyone who wants to polish every time they get the slightest scratch that's a sure way to ruin any watch.The RSC at normal routine 5-8 year service will polish watch as good as new only to get scratched again in normal daily wearing.

Personally I wouldn't let RSC (or anyone) polish the watch during service. I don't mind the "worn" look at all. I had an Omega Seamaster that I wore for 14 years and I never once had it polished. Even though it was never polished and was in need of a service I sold it for 1.5 times more than I paid for it.

Today is first time in wearing the watch since I scratched it around 4 weeks ago, it felt great to wear it again :)

I am off to Florida for four weeks in 3 weeks time, I dont know if thats long enough to sort the watch out whilst over in the USA?

I bought the watch from London at http://www.watchfinder.co.uk/ though I did not speak to them about the scratch as they are not local to me. I contacted Goldsmiths (previously Northern Goldsmiths) who insisted on the phone that there was no options at all to send the watch to Rolex for polishing until it was due the 5 year service. I did push this and speak to another staff member who confirmed this was the case. http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/i/rolex (they are only around 5 miles from me).

Anyway I have decided if I have to live with the scratch for a couple of years so be it, but I would like it taking out if its possible.

Quite fancy adding a green submariner to my collection would it be a better purchase whilst in the states or europe?

That was your first mistake next time ask someone serving in Mc Donalds, their knowledge will be on a par with someone selling Rolex in Goldsmiths.
