Rolex Authentication

I've read that all modern rolex watches have the rolex crown etched into the crystal at the 6 o'clock position and this is a good way of ensuring the watch is genuine?

Coronet at 6 o'clock is definitely copied by the fakers.....but not very well. Your best bet to end-up with an authentic Rolex watch is to purchase it from a reputable source

Thanks Jason - So with a good fake it's pretty difficult to tell the difference between the real thing?

True and any older watches like my 1986 Explorer II that have had a crystal change will also have that feature.

Could you expand on that? What other ways can you tell? Other than obvious things like paperwork etc..

No, it is not difficult if you know what you are looking at. At TRF we show authentic watches and discuss what they look and operate like. Once you know what an authentic watch is, you will not bee fooled.

If you want to discuss fakes, TRF is not the place for that. You can find plenty of sites who cater to this illegal activity.

I'm new to the site and I'm just curious regarding the safeguarding features Rolex use..I would NEVER buy a fake and I recently bought my first rolex (Explorer 214270) from an AD..I didn't start this thread to discuss fakes..

Congratulations on the new watch, but I would recommend to use the 'search' function, just because this topics comes up every so often and there's quite a bit of good information already posted in those threads.

We don't discuss illegal sweatshop pos here, but to look at some for awareness sake there's the Watchout section. There are literally tons of pieces of shti there. Sourced from all over the web for our gentle scrutiny. Compare the poor fit, finish and downright rough craftsmanship to the perfection that you have on your wrist.

Welcome aboard.

Best advice you'll get here is to search and read read read. Everything Rolex is here.
