Dodge Hellcat... HP CRAZY!!

I think it's an awesome car for the price. They claim it's going to be competitive with the gt500 etc. I live in MI. We don't have any "twisties". All of our roads are straight so most people don't really get to hung up on race track handling for the street. It's more of a stop light to stop light thing here. So these cars fit right in.
The 707hp is sweet, but In all honesty will get anihilated by the new corvette z06 with 600hp. Pure weight game. I think the vette weighs about 1k lbs less...

I'll keep my rear wheel drive with solid rear axle for ever. It's more fun. You should have seen and felt the 1st to 2nd pull I just did on the way to the gym. It was a two lane road and the opposite lane was all bumper to bumper so it made it all the more louder.

I'd never trade my car in on anything but I am saving for that next car and I would consider another muscle car in about ten years to add to the collection. At 6'3 and 260 it's all I can comfortably fit into. No vettes for me.

I like all of the " big 3". Currently one 1 of each.
IMO even tuned the ZL1 is low on the list. You have to remember the zl1 guys aren't the only ones tuning their cars. The gt500 for example puts down about 100hp more at the tires bone stock. (There is a YouTube of this exact dyno shootout).
So when both cars are moving up in hp, the camaro has to get an extra 100hp just to be on a level playing field. Hard to do.

Check out evolution performance and what they have for gt500 mods. Not much $ and crazy numbers are coming out of that car.

$1500 gets you about 750 ponies to the wheels on the gt500.

Ask for the Raven racing 13-6 kit.


850 ponies to the wheels is very easily attained. Once you get over that number it's time to pull the engine for a rebuild then you can get over 1000 rwhp.

I love it. Being a Mopar guy myself, I'm happy to be on top! Also, this just opened up a whole can of worms as GM and Ford are going to be working on an answer soon enough.

I feel like if the Hellcat has 707hp, what is next for the Viper?

Don't know, never tried it. I sprint corner to corner on the back roads for the most part, so no real need to me. On the street, with traction control, I'll launch, spin slightly then go go go! Might not be the fastest but very consistent and still plenty fun.

Being a Viper fan myself, I'm afraid the Viper will be gone by 2018.

Great, great track car, Road and Track ran the Viper 3 seconds faster than the Z/28 and GT-R at a track called Thermo, a private Country Club track near Palm Springs. Times in the 1:23's vs. 1:26's, and can do it as long as the tires hold up, no heat sink from a supercharger issues.

Yet, the Viper still gets no love.

And, with over 400, mostly all new cars, being advertised on autotrader, people are obviously voting against it with their wallets. It's sad when people argue the Viper needs more power when all it really needs is better rag write-ups.

My personal feeling is that the Viper is kind of isolated, it's an enigma in that yes it's part of Dodge, but it was discontinued, then started as a separate company, now it's back. I think the V10 while awesome for motor-heads has turned many would-be buyers off. Don't get me wrong the Viper and Vette are it as far as serious American made road-course cars but while it might be faster then most everything else its butt-ugly and a little scary. Even with the new traction control system and saner handling it's still the car that almost killed Kelsey Grammer. I love the Viper, and would own one if I had the play money, but truth be told while it's incredibly under priced for what it is... I would most likely buy something else with the money because it's not very practical as just a weekend driver, it needs to be stretched out and driven hard and I'm not a track guy. If Steve McQueen were still around, he'd probably own one, and then they wouldn't be able to keep them in stock but it hasn't quite crossed over from unattainable-kind-of-cool to real-deal-appeal.

I read somewhere that after he crashed his NART he tried to turn this GTB into a NART, but it's been converted back and should fetch 8 figures. Even when a stock 4 cam GTB is going for around 4 mill.

If Dodge seemed to have taken a pause in the past couple of years while the old muscle-car rivalry between the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro reached new heights, it's making up for lost time with a quickness. Hot on revaling the 707-hp Dodge Challenger Hellcat for 2015, Dodge came forth today with an official proclamation: The Challenger Hellcat is the fastest factory muscle car to ever sprint a quarter-mile. Put that in your tires and smoke it.

Dodge says under the auspices of the National Hot Rod Association, it timed the Challenger Hellcat at 11.2 seconds and 125 mph down the strip on stock tires — faster than any production Mustang or Camaro, excluding those purpose-built for drag racing. When Dodge swapped the stock Pirellis for drag slicks, the Hellcat made it 10.8 seconds at 126 mph. The closet competitor to the Hellcat would be a 2013 Shelby GT500 with 662 hp, which lags about 0.3 seconds behind on stock tires.

You can watch the video below to see Dodge's versions of events and a run versus a 1971 Challenger for comparison. The rest of Detroit won't let itself see only the Hellcat's tail lights for long.

i agree 100%. the newest version is legit. the old ones were to much "race car" cheap interiors etc.

until i see pricing as of now i still think the best bang is the gt500. all i would do is a tune, dyno, make it breathe better etc...

Yep, saw a red Hellcat on Woodward tonite - not manufacture plates.

was right next to me up close - sounds sweet - kinda plain though - seems to sit up taller than the Camaro.

Dig the taillights, which is good since it's the view most will see.

60K to be a red light demon... For that kind of money I'd probably look at the Vette or the Z28. At least those cars can handle the twisties.
