1970 1675 GMT - Help Please

Hi all... My father received this watch in a trade for various items. It looks refinished to me but I wanted to get some help from the experts. The serial number is 3019762. It has "Registered Design" at the 12'oclock position. I could use some comments on what RF thinks.

You are correct about the dial. Original would be Mark II possibly Mark III.

Yes, refinished. Number of things wrong with this one. On a positive side, you can pick up a correct dial for 3 mil serial for about $600 to $800 in an excellent condition and you will have an awesome watch. Though you might also match the hands to the dial.

I'm trying to learn :-) How can you tell it's refinished? The marker at 6 not being totally straight?

The GMT master font isn't correct as well as the lack of swiss t<25 marking at the bottom of the dial.

i'm sure theres more but the pics are kinda blurry

looks like the UAL in perpetual are scrunched together as well

That's the thing that jumped out at me first. Original dial would say "SWISS - T < 25" at the bottom (6:00).

Yes it's refinished, but it looks good and I would just leave it be and enjoy it. Unless you are a collector or want to flip it.

Rolex would just put a service dial on it, which a service dial could be bought for a few hundred online and save quite a bit of money over sending it to Rolex.

the "right" way collectors wise would be to source an original serial specific dial for 6-800 to bring it back to the way it looked from the factory. depending on what you plan on doing with the watch really determines what you should do. if you're flipping it, I'd just sell it with the redial, or buy a service dial to put on it. sourcing an original might take some time.

Great piece, Unless you are true a vintage collector just Wear it and enjoy it. Maybe source a nice oyster bracket and your good to go

Very cool....I'll tell my father to wear it in good health and to think about getting a new dial when the watch needs service. Any recommendations on where to source the correct dial?

The font on your dial is silver, it should be white.

Now that I am back home with my computer to review my files, the correct dial for your watch would be a Mark II, or W-2 as I refer to it. Below is the correct dial for a GMT 1675 with a 30XXXXX serial number.

So the plan is to keep this watch and get it back to original condition. The following is on eBay and I could use some device on whether or not it's legit and correct for the serial number.

The dial on ebay is not correct. Based on your serial number, you would need to source a Mark II dial. Compare the ebay dial to the dial I posted earlier in this thread.
