SD 4000. I didn't expect to be all that impressed with this watch, but having had the opportunity to see in the flesh and try on, I can only say Rolex did a great job on this one!!!

Both are fantastic watches, but not my cup of tea as I find the SD a touch too thick for my liking and the DSSD too large. However, I do respect and appreciate the craftsmanship behind both watches and the new DSSD D-Blue dial is simply gorgeous.
My vote goes to the SD. |

Neither. Can't say that I've warmed up to any of the ceramic bezel models.

I have yet to see the Deep Sea Blue in person but the photos seem stunning.

I have a tiny wrist so I'd do the SD 4000... Might trade this in the spring for one...

I have to go with the SD 4000. The Deepsea D-Blue is very nice, but it is just too big and thick for me. I have tried the DSSD on several times, and it just was too thick and unwieldy on my wrist. Maybe if the bracelet didn't taper so much it would feel more balanced to me?
On the other hand, I tried on the SD 4000 a month ago at my AD, and bought it on the spot. The updates really work for me, and it feels very comfortable and balanced on my wrist. (Of course, I already have two original Sea Dwellers, so I am not exactly impartial to the original SD design!) I am glad Rolex is giving us choices in the "Sea Dweller" family - I know many here own and love the DSSD, and many here were sad to see the original SD discontinued! |

I tried both on yesterday and while the DSSD has a distinctive look, it is simply too thick on the wrist IMO.

Depends on if what I want is primarily an awesome conversation piece that's also a great Rolex watch; or an awesome Rolex watch.

For a daily wearer, the SD4000 easily. I love the domed crystal and the impossible engineering of the DSSD, it is a really special piece, but I've owned the SD4000 for well over 2 months now and it has been on 24/7. It is the perfect modern sport watch.
A key differentiator is that the SD4000 is much more flexible to wear, you can actually wear it lose on those hot and humid days. The DSSD needs to be fitted perfectly on the wrist, it doesn't feel good when it is flopping around as it is so top-heavy. Now the right answer is to get both - the DSSD makes for a great weekend/special occation piece, but if you could only have one and it had to be a daily wearer, the answer is clearly the Sea-Dweller 4000. |
