Icon20 Anyone have Osvaldo Patrizzi book on Rolex?

Looking for information on "Rolex: Collecting Modern and Vintage Wristwatches," Volumes I and II.

Assuming there's just one version (and let me know if that's incorrect), could someone who has this set tell me how it's organized, what it includes? I have the coffee table books by Dowling and by Skeet, et al. So, by way of comparing, how would Patrizzi be different? How comprehensive is he? How is the book organized (some make it all-but impossible to discern chronology, for example; others leave a lot of gaps in their supposed coverage).

Thanks. And, by the way, this is my first Post here!

I write this a few years back.

My lovely wife give me this book. The
Collecting Rolex Wristwatches from Osvaldo Patrizzi.

This book was just what i needed and Iīm impressed of
the quality of it. When I got it in my hand my first
impression was, huuh itīs heavy. Hard cover and 3,5
kilograms, 390 pages and when I say pages I mean that.
A great thick high glossy paper and every page is 0,2
mm thick so it feels like got 3 pages when I turn the page.

Ok whats in it? Is it so good as it feels?

It start with a preface from Jean Claude Killy and then
Mr Patrizzi have wrote a introduction. Then there is a
few pages with history of Hans Wilsdorf, Andre J Heiniger
and Patrick Heiniger. Then there are all important dates
in Rolex history.

Itīs not a great book if you like to read a lot, there is
mostly photos and just a little text to each model. I suppose
itīs cover the most Rolex watches who have been made and there
is a high quality photo on nearly all the references. At the
end of the book there is a index with all the references and
what page you can find it at.

Here is some pics from the book, sorry for the quality I have
shot it with my cam. The photos are real great in the book so
my pics donīt do the justice.

The reference index.

In my opinion itīs a great book and it have just what Iīm
looking for, a bunch of references with photos of the watch.

But is everything just great with it? If I should say something
negative of it so could there was a little more text in it. And
itīs too heavy and big, itīs not easy to read it in the sofa. I
believe Mr Patrizzi have thinking of you should read it in your
library or put it at your desktop. But with that thing I can live
with it and I really love the book.

Just my humble opinions.

Very nice and rare book. A friend of mine, the Danish watch maker and former vintage watch dealer, Michael Woollhead, has it, but he won't part with it.

Thanks; this helps a lot.

I hadn't seen this book / version before. The one I was looking at had two books, in slip case. Is this something different from that?

Hi guys, I found an ebay listing of the collecting modern and vintage wristwatches here for sale, its the 2 book version in the cover. Is this what you are looking for? However, very expensive at over $500 USD.

The pricing I've consistently seen is between $500 and $650, so that's what we're talking about here.

Has anyone actually read this book? What I was hoping for when I Posted this question was a response along the lines of what Jocke provided on the version he'd read, sorta "here's what you actually get for that price." Quite frankly, I have other Rolex books that look quite impressive on my coffee table, but, if you've ever seen the movie Beetlejuice, read "like stereo instructions."

In other words, not much help to the serious researcher, looking for specific models, dates, and solid verification. If this book provided that, $550 could actually be less expensive than a $150 book that did not.

Thanks for everyone's patience and efforts w/ me as I get my feet wet in this Forum!

I once had this book and it came with a values guide of the time and from memory you are allowed to get a new guide every so often from Patrizzi included in the cost of the book. Is this still the case? Does anyone know?
