Welcome to TRF

I have never bought any vintage watches from West Sussex Watches, but would be wary of buying anything on Ebay without having it checked out first.
If you are considering purchasing from Ebay, I would ask here first, and post a link to the watch you are considering.
The experts here are normally more than willing to assist.
Ebay is littered with non genuine Rolex watches and parts, so be very careful.

Thanks alot for the help.

Here is a link to watch

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

The seller says the watch is all original with its original dial having been restored. With a new non original strap.

Hopefully someone can help.

Hi

I was very tempted to buy a watch from West Sussex Watches a short while ago. The advert described it has having an 'aftermarket Rolex Oyster bracelet', which to me, suggested that the bracelet was Rolex, just newer than the watch. I queried this with the seller (who, incidentally was quite rude and short in his reply, not giving too much info). Apparently, he had this particular bracelet replicated by a jeweller. Being a bit miffed that this was described as a Rolex Oyster bracelet, not a copy, got me wondering how genuine the rest of the watch was so I never placed a bid.

Just my 2p worth

Hey - that dial doesnt look like a normal Rolex dial.

I would steer clear - or ask them to email you photos of the engravings between the lugs at 12 and 6.

Good Luck ...

Fake

I purchased a watch a couple of years ago. When it broke down I had Rolex look at it and they deemed it to be a fake.

Rolex were aware that West Sussex Watches was questionable, so I would be careful if I was you.

I bought my first Rolex from West Sussex Watches about 2 years ago, its a '78 OP TT and its been perfect, I had it checked not long after it arrived and it checked out all original.
It has been a great time keeper since then.

Just my experience with them.

Never bought from them but phoned them up once to query an item. The man on the phone was rude, didn't seem to know what he was taliking about and didn't seem particullarly interested in talking to me.
Personally, I wouldn't bother.

West Sussex watches .....

... produce and sell a lot of after-market dials for old Rolexes - some quite quirky.

This probably helps gets a few old watches up and running again but they are essentially just fake dials.

I enquired about one and had a fairly informed conversation with a guy i would say was open and honest.

He reasonably quickly declared that the watch in question had a refinished dial which obviously killed it for me. But because it appears they have access to an ex-Rolex trained and experienced dial guy locally, I think a lot of their watches are basket case dials that are then refinished.

But if you want a new looking vintage and are not particularly concerned about originality then fine. Horses for courses and all that. Their prices reflect that so where's the harm. I would imagine the bad feedback is from people thinking they are getting the bargain of the century to then find its refinished. As they say.....you get what you pay for

Hi Guys,
I have just raised a dispute against WSW.
Sold me a rolex explorer precision, nice enough chap to speak to (Jamie Thorpe he as called ), waited 5 days for the thing to turn up - had been unable to contact by phone/email. Ebay jut emailed me to say that the seller was dodgy and had disappeared and to raise a dispute.
No longer an ebay member, mobile number disconnected.
Annoyed. Joined this forum just to tell you he is defiantly crooked.

Thread resurrection
Jamie Thorpe is back in business with Ludgate watches, he has just caught me out, I payed direct transfer for a dateadjust still waiting for it to arrive 5 days later , I have found his co-owners address as I can't find one for this Jamie Thorpe, so unless anyone here can give me an address for him, I will have to let my solicitor write to the other owner, after all he must take responsibility surely?.
