for the team and NFL, it ends well. hopefully, the woman will get help if she needs it.

as for the bigger picture, it's a tough line to walk for the NFL, as the game is a violent one run by a league that tolerates steroids and other agressive mood enhancers for the sake of "the show". once it had become clear to me that the league and the quality of the game isn't much different than the WWF/WWE, i stopped watching.

This incident is a window into the soul of the NFL and their teams. The Ravens imposed a wrist-slapping on Rice while the NFL stood on the sidelines before public release of the video, despite both having had a written account of the incident. Their thinking must have been something along the lines that their idiotic NFL fans are barely conscious and Ravens/NFL can get away with this wrist slapping. (In fact, before release of the video, Rice was receiving praise from Ravens team leaders.) Along came TMZ to shed some light on the subject. Now NFL/Ravens are probably thinking wow, this video really brings it home to our brain-dead fans, so we had best pretend to give a damn.

This display of extremely low standards is insulting to the fans and I am happy to say that I will sever all association with the NFL and their teams. Fan response will show whether NFL/Ravens are right about what appears to be their low opinion of their fans.

Exactly.

Both the NFL and the Ravens are hypocrites. When the Ravens won the Superbowl two years ago, Ray Lewis was their poster boy.

He was directly involved in a double murder, and they just acted like it never happened.

Even if we are to believe that the Ravens and the NFL did not see the elevator footage prior to this week, (and I don't believe it for a minute,) how did they think that the woman wound up unconscious? What did they think happened in the elevator?

You are so right! People do not realize how fragile the human skull is. They get all their information from television/movies and think you can hit anybody with anything and there will be no negative results.

That is why I stopped watching sports and going to movies. I do not want to reward people for bad behavior the rest of us would be put in jail for.

You stopped going to movies because you didn't want to reward people for bad behavior?

Don't most people go to a movie knowing they are fiction and not real?

Ray Rice's wife is being victimized ten times more severely now by the media, Ravens, and the NFL, than she was by Ray, who she chose to forgive and marry.

I was raised by a strong mother and have a wife and 2 daughters. My love and respect for women knows no bounds.
You never put your hands on a woman....period. I'm guessing her "forgiveness" had something to do with that $50M contract and a nice lifestyle.
Now all she's got is an unemployed idiot who hits her.
My experience is that no man hits a woman one time in one incident.

Its a shame but money talks. I am not aware of the specifics but if it happens again he will have a heavy settlement to pay out. I hope he doesnt ever have to deal with a screaming teething baby in the middle of the night.

There's a bit more to the story than TMZ was letting on, if they had the whole video to begin with.

The AP has been shown the entire video tape, which changes the scenario considerably, in my view, but probably will not change the outcome for Rice.

Ray Rice and Janay Palmer can be heard shouting obscenities at each other, and she appears to spit in the face of the three-time Pro Bowl running back right before he throws a brutal punch in a video shown to The Associated Press by a law enforcement official. The video, shown to the AP Monday night, includes audio and is longer than the grainy TMZ Sports video released earlier that day.

After the TMZ video made its way around the Internet, the Baltimore Ravens cut Rice and the league suspended him indefinitely. Rice was originally suspended for two games and coaches and others had praised his behavior since the arrest for striking his then-fiancee in February.

The videos show Rice and Palmer in an elevator at an Atlantic City casino. Each hits the other before Rice knocks Palmer off her feet and into a railing. Months ago, a TMZ video showed Rice dragging Palmer, now his wife, from the elevator at the Revel casino, which closed on Sept. 2.

The higher-quality video shown to the AP shows Rice made no attempt to cover up the incident. After Palmer collapses, he drags her out of the elevator and is met by some hotel staff. One of them can be heard saying, “She’s drunk, right?” And then, “No cops.” But Rice didn’t respond. The video was shown to the AP on condition of anonymity because the official isn’t authorized to release it.

AP: Longer Ray Rice Video Shows Janay Spitting

Her spitting on him doesn't warrant his actions.

I believe I said that these facts wouldn't change anything for Rice and that was meant to include public opinion. I know everyone here is as cool as a cucumber in the face of every conceivable provocation.

I'm just presenting the facts as they emerge.

Doesn't matter to me if she kicked him in the junk. He hit her like a man. Most you can do is play defense against an angry woman in my book. There is no offense.

Two types of men. Ones that think it's ok to hit a woman (even given provocation) and men who know it's never OK. Also pretty sure you never change columns UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

Why do you armchair lawyers keep saying he will serve jail time???? His charges will be dismissed upon successful completion of a pre-trial intervention program which he was already legally accepted into. The law is the law and the court already approved that request therefor he will serve no jail time unless he unsuccessful completes the program or commits another crime.

I believe that he will be an NFL running back again in the future. The NFL has taken back suspected murders, convicted DUI drivers, animal killers, and drug addicts. This too will pass and if he's still capable of playing he will be back. I don't condone what he did but the facts are the facts and we haven't seen the last of him in an NFL uniform.

If you're suggesting that I condone his actions, back up a bit and reread.

However, there is prudent behavior and there is imprudent behavior and domestic violence runs both ways.

I personally have a no tolerance rule when it comes to aggressive behavior in relationships and that includes turning around and leaving and never returning, not even for stuff.

That's the best way to handle such situations and that is my recommendation to all young men. Don't even wave goodbye, because that can be construed as an attempted violent act and it will be held against you.

They and I mean THEY are already beginning the road to reclamation. After awhile the drumbeat will be - this man has done wrong and he has admitted it - this man has paid a incredible price far greater than most abusers - this man needs to be able to provide for his family which includes the victim ( that's the big one even though he already has millions)- and finally the catch all --- Americans believe in forgiveness and second chances. The sad part is a large % of our country will at some point within the next 18 months come to agree with this.......... but only if she can hang in without having her head ripped off (and as I said before a pregnancy wouldn't hurt) After the % buys in and every dollar has been collected - she'll divorce him - payback a bitch and we will just be left with the memories.

The pr people are already at work - rays wife will take control now and ray will follow quietly with good deeds and most importantly money. Can Pete Rose finely get his due -so what if he liked to gamble! I guess there was no money in defending him...... wait.... sorry that was baseball... nobody cares now.

No one wanted to see the video which is why no one was looking for it besides TMZ. The Ravens and NFL only acted after it became embarrassing and threatened to impact revenue. See also NBA & Donald Stirling, etc. Ray Rice was on his way to insignificance anyway as far as the Ravens go - yeah there were 3 years left on his contract but his primo playing days of 30+ carries per game were long gone.

I actually agree with a lot of Keith Olbermann's demands from a couple of days ago. And I'll gladly boycott the NFL until Goodell, et. al. are gone. College has always been my preferred football and both the Ravens and 'Skins suck this season. Actually, that's not fair to the Redskins - they've sucked since Snyder bought them.

And yes, domestic violence is inexcusable. Skip the BS about the "kiss and make up" that is being portrayed. Wife beaters typically come from abusive backgrounds and they perpetuate the cycle almost without fail. Breaking that cycle requires serious determination along with professional counseling, etc. After watching Rice beat his fiancee unconscious then throw her out of the elevator like so much trash to be taken out? I don't think Ray's heart is really in it. He's just waiting for the heat to die down so he can get back in a few months........
