Deep Sea strange choice
Unless you are a deep sea diver or Rolex collector the new watch has limited appeal. I would think the sub would have been a better financial move.

A better financial move and more practical to wear and easier to combine with clothes.
I think that the Deep Sea would be a heavy watch to wear for everyday

The Rolex site says it can bear 3 tonnes of pressure.... time to park your Humvee on it!
I am perversly attracted to it - probably because I will never own one. |

I think that it is a smart move because the market seems to be favoring large watches these days, so I don't see a problem selling many of these!

I must admit - I saw some MontBlanc watches and they were HUGE!! The face was the size of the palm of my hand!

I'd have to look online for pics of them - anyway as far as I am concerned MB make fine pens, and therefore that's all I would look at - not fussed about their watches or jewellery. I got a 149 Meisterstuck and had it 20 years - fab pen! real "power jewellery"!

Why oh Why >>>>>>>>>>>>
Now if they can just print "Doomed Crystal" on the crystal. "WG Hands" written on the hands, "Dial" written on the dial and so forth so we really know what to call these parts and wouldn't it be a beauty? ;-) LMAO =) maverick

I know the answer to my question is not many, but what percent of sea-dweller owners really use the watch for diving at it's full rated potential, like the sub at 1,000 ft. couldn't do the job.
I own a dweller D ser# and I haven't taken mine to the ocean. I do wear it every day, so it gets its use. I didn't need the 4,000 ft rating, I just like the clean look of the face without the cyclops. |

Yet Panerais are so popular.
The Deep Sea will sell well. I still don't like it.

I have owned both the Sub and the SD.
The deepest that I have ever dived, weraing one of these is about 30 metres. If I was going as deep as the Sub is rated at, I wouldn't be coming back up!!!! But it still put me of the appeal of owning a new DSSD

People always want to own the "best of the best", and the DSSD can probably go deeper then any other watch out there.
It is all about marketing these days, not practicality. If it were about practicality, the Sub would not need to be rated to a depth greater then 100m (or less!!)

Rolex shouldn't pander to trends, they should create them, someone should remind them "form is temporary, class is permanent"

I'm sure it will sell well. Some folks enjoy the latest, and the biggest.

the depth rating is kinda like getting newest sports car that can do 200mph when we could only drive 55mph here(Illinois).just in case you need it,it's there.
