What's going to worth more than you paid for it in 20 years?
Hi,
Just been reading a post about buying rolexes as investments and lots of people don't think rolexes are apart from maybe the odd Paul Newman or Double Red Comex Ninja (worn naked by James Caan but only issued to Black Ops NASA pilots) affairs. Well food for thought, I bought a bog standard 79100 Tudor Submariner back in 1989 for £437 (about $800) and they're worth at least double that now so what prices do you think your watches are going to worth in another 20 years? I'm betting my Anniversary 16610 LV, SS Daytona and DeepSea (when it arrives) will be worth at least what I paid for them and I will be able to give them to my boy when he can really appreciate them ( or at least sell them to help buy a house)......over to you..... I think in the long run most Rolex models will be able to at least recover their buying cost, especially sports models due to their ruggedness (and popularity). Now that I know a little more about Rolex, I can appreciate which models have the potential for substantial appreciation.
At this stage I would put these models at the top of the "investment" watches, in order of rate of appreciation: 1. Milgauss GV (by a mile!) 2. Sub LV 3. SD (if discontinued) 4. Non-COSC Sud ND 5. M-series SS GMT IIc Rolex aside, I am very surprised at how much Tudors appreciate in price! That Monaco Chrono is ridiculously expensive right now.

Would seriously doubt if any modern day Rolex from 1989 on would be any sort of investment, just to many of them around.Except for perhaps a few watches like the Zenith Daytona, or non date sub tritium dial, and perhaps the recently introduced Milgauss.

Growla,
Your Tudor has been discontinued and that adds much to it's value. Although Rolex watches retain a relative high value the whims of the market and availability will all come into play. Sure holding on to my "Big Block" Tudor chrono. dP

yep, gotta agree with padi. there are just too many examples on the market, unlike the double red sd's, comex, acrylic gmt's etc...
i suspect few rolex will lose value, most would remain fairly steady. people obviously buy rollies hoping they'll be worth more but i'm simply not one of those guys. i buy them for the love of the watch and there isn't one watch i own that i think about making a buck down the road. in terms of the future the only thing i think about is the satisfaction of knowing that the watch i love today will someday be an heirloom for my sons to hopefully cherish and enjoy as much as i have. |

buy for the pleasure not investment
Yeah, agree withmost posts, price will reflect demand and availability. I buy mine to wear and if they keep/make money too then all the better. My boy will get the pleasure of them when I go so they'll also have history with them....
