What's in your CD/MP3 Player These Days?

Since I got the Rush R30 DVD/CD combo for xmas, I've downloaded the CD to my MP3 player and have been listening to that A LOT lately.

Other bands on my MP3 are The Tragically Hip, Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, Dave Matthews Band, Foo Fighters, Weezer, The Cure, Sum 41, The Police and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Hi Atomic,

I just bought a 30gig Ipod video about two weeks ago and I am now a pod head. So far I have imported over 200 of my 350ish CDs. I plan on putting my whole collection on it. I also have bought some albums from itunes. The cool thing is you buy the album at regular price, put it on your ipod and it also allows you 5 burns to CD as well. Not a bad deal.

With MP3 players becoming the rage, can you imagine in 5 years what it will be. CDs will be like 8 track, and it will all go to downloaded music with more gigs than what is out today.

I bet it will soon go more into the DVD business as well.

Anyway good topic away from watches.

Well Mort, just think with the ipods now playing 'video', I would think the future may be a file with both audio AND visual as a standard. Since I use public transportation to get to work (for now) I can't imagine watching my fave band on a tiny screen. I'll get motion sickness, since I can't even read in a moving vehicle.

My MP3 is a one gig, able to hold about what? 150 songs? I guess CDs will go the way of the 8-Track and all music will likely be accessed electronically, either online, or perhaps by simply 'plugging in' your player at a store and downloading.

I can't imagine having all my CDs on something as small as an MP3 player, but I guess the beauty is, you can plug it into the car and have music for whatever mood anytime.

Sorry Atomic,
I cannot support RUSH. I know the're Canadian, but there is something in the music that grates me. ( Like finger nails on a blackboard)
I've got my whole collection on my Sony version of an Ipod ( about 4500 songs todate)(NONE from downloads)
Favorites still are tunes from the 90's & 80's though.
I guess these are slipping into the "classic" realm now. LOL

You've got some good taste in tunes there, John

Question - is any of the material on the 2nd DVD on the CD? If so, I'd really love a copy of "Closer To The Heart" with Ed and Bubbles on it.......any chance you can burn that and email it to me?

It's not on the CD, as far as I can tell. It's just the concert audio. I'm sure there is a way to burn the audio of a DVD to an MP3, but I have no idea and I don't have a DVD burner. I wish I did cuz I'd love an audio track of Rush in Rio (and said Bubbles track).

Thanks Craig...

As for you John.... you're on seriously thin ice here. How can any red-blooded Canuck NOT like Rush? You must have American parents.

Hmmm. I've got Wagner's Das Rhinegold on mine. He was a real swinger back in the 1860's. Some great stuff there.

Actually Ed, I'm going to download a bunch of classical stuff soon. Since Mrs. A doesn't like it, the only 'private' listening time I have is when I commute. I'll put on some Glenn Gould and also want to download some latin jazz.

Rush was fine on "The Trailer Park Boys", but I cannot listen to a whole song without the hair on the back of my neck standing up.
Even though they were/are a HUGE Canadian band, not my taste in music.
So beat me with a frozen Seal Pup.

You just redeemed yourself by admitting you're a Trailer Park Boys fan.

BTW, that episode from season three with Alex Lifeson in it was GOLD!

Hey John, I just thought about this. If you have seen the movie Lilo and Stitch then you have heard the guy that is on the CD in my truck.

Well, my taste in music is very eclectic. On the iPod Nano are:

The sound of grass growing, parts I and II
Let’s hear those atoms fly
Dripping Taps, Extended 12” Club Mix (rare)
And as the piece de resistance: Whale Songs of the Atlantic!

It's a gift! Besides, if you hang around with the forum clowns long enough you'll soon get the hang of it. You'll have to, out of self preservation. Known clown are: Daren, Paul, John, Ed and to a lesser degree, JJ.

P.S. I'm not one of them, whatever they tell you

That reminds me - one of my lecturers once mentioned that an Israeli PhD student of his was doing his thesis about Wagner's music. Nobody else in the class got it.
