I know, for instance, at a flagship store in Costa Mesa, these kinds of discounts are totally impossible. They won't discount on SS and 10% at most on gold. High volume..
I do not know what their volume is, but their discount structure is as you described so I would imagine they are considered high volume. Zero discount on SS. TT can get discounts that normally cover sales tax but only on a couple specific days of the year, and PM can get around 10% again only on two or three specific days of the year. I got 12% on my 116509 Daytona and not only did it take quite a bit of haggling to get anything beyond 5%, but I had to purchase it at a specific time for them to approve the discount with their District Manager, so I am fairly certain that a new client fresh in the door would have little to no luck even on precious metal watches because with the DM involved I am sure my purchase history came into play.

I was under the impression that Rolex fixes prices in the marketplace similar to Apple where whether you are at a huge chain or a small mom and pops store, the Apple stuff is always the same price with discounts being extremely rare. That combined with what HL65 noted about the dealer cost being 62% of RRP, I could not see any AD chain anywhere letting a watch go for only 3-13% over cost and the ones that are must be independent authorized dealers that do not have the corporate politics and financial expectations to deal with.

I have read that in several places and believe it to be accurate which is exactly why some of the discounts mentioned in this thread from AD's seem so unbelievable. I am not saying anyone is being dishonest, just wondering how discounts like that are obtained without going through a grey market dealer.

Just did a deal with DavidSW for a NIB 18K Sub with the Sunburst Dial. No AD will come close to the price. Check out the Trusted Sellers.

Agreed. I am certain she knows all the "insider" info that an AD can have, but as much as I would like to know I have never and will never bring up any of that stuff for two reasons. The first is I know she has a non disclosure agreement with her company and I would never put her in any position to violate that and the second is not much is secret anymore with the internet having evolved to where it is today. Anything she could tell me I can already find with a bit of effort searching so again, no reason to put her in a position to violate company policy by discussing it with me. The most I know is what the maximum discount I can get is which is strictly based on my relationship with her company and has nothing to do with the relationship I have with her.

It is actually funny to sit with her while she goes through the threads in the for sale section here as not only does she see watches like the 116400GV, 116520, and 116710BLNR which still take a little bit of effort for her to get, but also going for significantly less than what she can sell them for which is full RRP on all three of those.

Exactly ! Let's just say that independent AD's are a joy to deal with in so many ways over the chains. Cheers.
