Resources for ID on 1940s/1950s Oyster Perpetuals

Two questions:

1. Is there a certain consistent place where I'd find reference, model numbers on these watch cases?

2. Is there a "resident expert" here who can help me identify specific watches from photos dating to this period?

Fetch your cam and post some pics, please, and I am positive that Mike and other resident vintage Rolex experts will chip in with good information on them.

Thanks; I'll keep my eyes open for those resources.

Probably won't be able to generally Post images, in that (a) the images wouldn't technically be mine of a watch I was considering, and (b) I'd hate to have the owner run across images of his or her watch here w/ my questions and others' candid comments.
