scratched after service?

Random question, sent in my jaeger via a dealer for warranty work since it was 20 min fast a day (did not appear magnetized according to a watchmaker). Turnaround was very fast, only a few weeks, but when I picked it up yesterday the caseback had several 1 cm long scratches on the back. When I took it over, it was MINT, not a mark on it. The dealer says they will send it back to Jaeger, but I don't know what they would really even do about it. I'm completely pissed especially considering it was an engagement/wedding gift for me. Is there any recourse for this type of thing?

A bit sloppy job, but scratches can be easily removed. A picture would help.

Depends how deep the scratch is. If it's not too serious it can be polished. Argue it with them and get it polished for free.

The scratches aren't bad, but just irritating after sending in a pristine watch to come back like this.

Complain and send it back. I would have refused to pay that service.

It was warranty work, so it didn't cost anything. That's why I'm at a dilemma, I don't really know what they would do, not like there is a service payment they would comp. Send it in just for a polish? That seems like a pain.

What they have done is still unacceptable, complain and ask for it to be returned in the condition it was previously or show them the damage and say you expect money off when it comes time to service.

I agree with Blackbay1! That's completely unacceptable and needs to be addressed. I'm surprised JLC would allow it to leave their possession in that condition? 👎

Are you sure it was definitely sent to JLC, or did the dealer sent it to a local watchmaker instead?

The fact that the turnaround was fast raises my suspicions, as JLC factory service can be notoriously slow... let alone the sloppy scratch damage.

If I were you I would request from your dealer evidence of service documentation from JLC. Or perhaps you could contact JLC directly to complain. If they have no record of doing the work, then your dealer owes you an explanation.

It was returned to me with a jlc travel case and jlc paperwork when it came back. I contacted jlc and they said they would take care of it and sent a prepaid overnight label. We will see when it comes back this time.

Ah ok. Well, I must say I'm very surprised - completely unacceptable from a high end brand. Indeed it's shocking.

I hope they restore the watch and your faith in the brand - your unhappiness is totally understandable.
