Bring 007's Rolex back!

I'm sure most of you here have seen the latest 007 movie, Casino Royale. Do you remember this scene on the train when Bond is talking to Vesper Lynd?

Vesper Lynd: Oh, you are? I like this poker thing. And that makes perfect sense! Since MI6 looks for maladjusted young men, who give little thought to sacrificing others in order to protect queen and country. You know... former SAS types with easy smiles and expensive watches.
[Glances at his wrist]

Vesper Lynd: Rolex?

James Bond: Omega.

Vesper Lynd: Beautiful.

That scene always drives me nuts. We all need to sign a petition and send it to Rolex or MGM to have the legendary Sub rightfully reinstated in the Bond franchise. Ok maybe I'm just venting.

Thanks Michael. I think it should only be natural that Bond gets his Submariner back. After all, he drives an Aston Martin again. Let the watch follow!

thanks!

Thanks guys, I love that 5513 and I'm glad to share the pic. There's something very warm about the glow of an acrylic crystal with no-surround hour markers; it must be one of the cleanest dials Rolex has made.

Gotta agree with you, Steven.

The dialogue in the Bond movie was bad taste and unnecessary showy. Omega is quite aggressive with their product placement strategies.

Whereas the Sub got famous simply because it was SEEN in the Bond movies, Omega got famous - at least as the "Bond watch" since Omega paid a lot of money to get their brand worn by James Bond.

There's the difference.

Bond

Does anyone know why Rolex were dropped for Omega? Is the CEO of Omega bald and owns a white cat...?

I agree,
Fish & chips,
Bricks & mortar,
Bond & Rolex.

A sub maybe but what about a new DSSD.This would boost both the Bond faction and Rolex's latest creation super popular

Its so big Q could hide a plane in its case

Well said Bo! I really doubt Rolex will ever appear in another Bond film just because they can't be bothered to put up that kind of advertising money to compete with Omega. It's not like Rolex is having any difficulty selling 100% of their watches right?

Having said that, debuting the SDDS with the upcoming release of Quantum of Solace would have been poetic justice.

Okay bat fans. My 0.02p

James Bond is the artistic and intellectual property of Ian Fleming and his estate.

In the original books, written by the guy who concieved the character in the first place...James Bond wore a Rolex wristwatch.

In my opinion, the above piece of dialogue from an otherwise fantastic movie is crass, sensationalist product placement and overt marketing!

If Omega secure the deal, so be it...allow people to see the watches and that's it. To write a line into a movie to sell a wristwatch is wrong and basically takes liberties with Fleming's original vision!

Imagine if (queen of the libal case) Joanne Rowling found out Warner Bros had changed Harry Potter's Nimbus 3000 (?!?) into a Nike Air Wizard Stick? You think she'd be happy?

Ron Weasley: Oh, you are? I like this Quidditch thing. And that makes perfect sense! Since Hogwarts looks for maladjusted young men, who give little thought to sacrificing others in order to protect queen and country. You know... speccy, scarred forehead types with easy smiles and expensive broomsticks.
[Glances at his groin]

Ron Weasley: Nimbus?

Harry Potter: Nike! Air Wizard Stick. Limited Gold Quiddy Wizzy Woo edition.

Ron Weasley: Beautiful

Harry Potter: You should see what the producers got!!!!!!!!!!

Somehow I can't picture it...can you?
