Possible first Rolex purchase question - used dual-tone Sub
I should preface this by asking you to forgive me if I sound a bit ignorant to the Rolex ways.
I came across what seems to be a near-mint dual-tone, blue dial Submariner in a local pawn shop. That usually would not be my go to place to purchase a watch, but it did catch my eye. I'm (again) admittedly ignorant, particularly on model numbers. But the owner, who did not seem to be an expert, said that it was likely manufactured between 2001-2002. No box, no records and no indication of when it was last serviced. Here's my question...if it can be answered with those limited details. It was marked at $6,900 and I was able to get them down to $5,800...and may be able to knock another couple hundred off. Given what I've been able to find on eBay and other websites, that seems like a pretty good deal. Thoughts? Thanks! |

Sounds like a good price to me... the only concern is authenticity. If he can guarantee it's genuine, I'd go for it. You can also track down it's production year by the serial number... several references online to help do that.

It did appear to be genuine from what I was able to tell. I'm not sure if you can make an assumption regarding market value based upon that possible date (2001-2002), but do you have an idea of what an average price on that watch would tend be? |

Its a great price. Esp if it has a solid end link. If he would allow you to take it to svc or and AD to authenticate I would do it.

If you can verify the authenticity of the watch and the production date 2001-2002, IMO you have a decent price before adding tax to your purchase. AD authentication as mentioned would be ideal prior to purchase.
