Icon14 Shameless Wrist Shot

I was walking to class and since its a beautiful, sunny (albeit cold) Southern California, I had to snap a wrist shot.
I have a love hate relationship with this watch, but today I love it.

The hate for it generally comes from the ubiquity of Rolex. Since I see it everywhere, I feel like it's not as special.

There's also reason like people freak out when they find out it's a rolex or people ask if it's fake, but those don't really bother me as much as the commonality of it among the circles I go through.

I don't think I've ever seen a GMT in the wild, and I look all the time. (I'm sure now I'll start seeing them)

First world problems. I suppose in LA, I can see these being "common", but here in Cleveland, I can honestly say that I've only ever spotted 2 GMT's. One is on the wrist of a co-worker (pre-ceramic 16710LN) and the other a friend (vintage Pepsi). Outside of this little circle of people that I know, I've never once spotted one in the "wild"...

For the record, even if it is commonplace in your neck of the woods, it doesn't detract from the fact that it is one of the best watches made on the planet. 99.5% of the world's population could not even fathom owning such an expensive watch. Maybe it's time to move into seclusion ;)

Agreed. I live in Atlanta and I see a few Rolexes per week our in the wild (mostly Datejusts) but I certainly wouldn't say they are common.

Interesting circle you travel in. I'm a professional pilot and I'll occasionally see one on a peer or a passenger. But ubiquitous is certainly not an adjective I'd use to describe a Rolex. Now get busy with the lovin' and put away the hatin'.

Know how you feel when it comes to commonality. I feel the same way when I pass through Aspen and see all the Mercedes, BMWs, Range Rovers, Jaguars and even the Rolls Royces everywhere. Makes me really glad I don't have any of those so that my enjoyment won't be spoiled.

That being said, I do love the watch greatly. The build quality, complication level, reliability, versatility, and overall feel are first class. I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't feel this way.

Otherwise have a good day y'all and be on the lookout.

that last sentence was a struggle to get through. OP posted a pic and you ramble on about how our watches are 'ubiquitous?'

I wear a TT DJ, and probably see 20 a week. I wear Danner boots, and see on order of 20 other people wearing them every day. Both are high quality tools that ideally suit my needs, and I assume the needs of the others who wear them. Reminds me of a T-Shirt I saw once; "I'm unique, just like everybody else".

I usually say don't worry about what others think or have but you're from LA so maybe check out some of the more uncommon Rolexes too, plenty of them I'm sure you'll never see even in La La Land.

I thought that was the number one goal of folks in Los Angeles? Having people notice you while simultaneously looking like everyone else.

It's a reflection of the sapphire crystal. It's actually quite interesting to look at as the watch crystal itself isn't directly touching the bezel. It creates almost a larger dial effect with that reflection.
