Hello friends,

A quickie question. Would (or could) an authentic Rolex Air King 5500 from 1979 have a 1530 movement? I tried looking it up myself but I just found any answer I came up with confusing.

The answer I came up with, by the way, is a confused "no."

Any insights?

Hm, no. Maybe it's just a 1530 bridge on a later movement?

A 1530 movement will tick 5 times per second, and it does not hack (meaning the seconds hand does not stop when you pull the crown out). A 5500 from 1979 should tick 5.5 times per second, and it should hack.

By 1979 it would surely be a 1570, right?

My late 1980s Sub 5513 has a 1530 inside, afaik.

That would be surprising. Not uncommon for 1530 bridges to be on other 15xx movement though. Is yours 5 or 5.5 beats per second?

Nice. I was reading a thread recently where Jedly talked about the 1530 being phased out in the sixties; I'll see if i can find it. In the meantime let me know if you find out the bph of your 5513!

Here's the thread I was talking about. Not sure why 1530 bridges seem to end up on everything.
