Every Saturday my parents and grand parents sat around and watch Saturday morning bowling with Don Gillis for over 25 years. My uncle even appeared on Candlepins for cash around 1978.
Candlepin bowling is a New England treasure that most people have never even heard of. My grandfather use to place pins when he was a kid, a penny a game in the early 1900's and was a tremendous bowler. He use to talk about "duck" pin games but I've never met anyone that knew much about it. I guess it was only played in RI. He had many friends on Federal Hill and the North End of Boston |
