I had forgotten about Smith & Hook! And you know what? After looking for a year I finally sourced a bottle of The Prisoner while on vacation (I could never find it locally) but haven't opened it yet. I'm saving it for a special occasion :)

It looks like we have very similar tastes! A 2009 Caymus is actually the bottle that got me started on this journey and will always remain a favorite of mine. I'll have to try the others you shared too. Thanks!

My wife and I are fans of the central coast of California, lots of nice wines and a bit more laid back than farther north.

The Malbec (not from CA) is a great bargain.

For me... Australian Cab Sauv is my preferred choice.

Not shown here as it is impossible to get in UK but Rockfords from the Adelaide hills. Their sparkling Shiraz is to die for (any Aussie members know of this?)

Also Shaw & Smith is highly recommended.

I wasn't introduced to GOOD red wine until my late 30's but I've been a fan ever since. In fact, I still have the bottle from that memorable dinner. I'm always on the lookout for new wines to try and, being the classy gents you seem to be, I thought I might find some like-minded individuals here that could offer up suggestions.

Also - Love Trefethen -- Halo is PHENOMENAL as are about all of their cabs (sav and franc). If you like Malbec - they have a WONDERFUL 100% Malbec called Dragons Tooth.

I tend to separate my wines in to three tiers: everyday wines (~$20), date night wines (~$40-$50), and special occasion wines ($75+). What I'd love to hear from you are some of your favorites for each of the categories. My tastes tend towards deep, dry, smooth, bold reds and I'm partial to Napa (but am open to wines from all over the world).

I pulled a few of my special occasion favorites from my wine cage to share with you, snuggled up with my DateJust and favorite wine opener (picked up from a tour at Joseph Phelps... couldn't resist the bling!). Lower tier favorites include Decoy, Belle Glos, Carmel Road, La Crema, Sextant, Altocedro, Maipe, Meiomi, and most MollyDooker's.

Those are some great wines!!!

I wouldn't even know where to start....we spent 10 days in Napa over the holidays and I re-stocked my cellar nicely...Sequoia Grove is great - we visited them along with MANY others while we were out there. Brough back some Cambium.

I'm a big fan of Amizetta (smaller, lower production vineyard) and the owners and family are GREAT people. Pride is another go to for me along with Viader (more for special occasions) - they are located on the top of Howell mountain in Deer Valley. They produce high end Bordeaux-style cabs.

Another few favorites are Nickel & Nickel, Scarecrow and Bond wines and OF COURSE Screaming Eagle --- when it's available.

I love reds & I usually find one I like & stick to it, although I've found the guys are very free with their advice & you have to try them out. LOL My cheap go to is Menage A Trois although I'm opening my scope to a broader range of varieties of grapes. I like 2 whites, 1 is a Sauvignon Blanc from Kim Crawford & a Late Autumn Riesling from Inneskillin from Ontario, Canada. I recently bought the Chardonnay from Kim Crawford for my cousin who is primarily in to white wine & she raved about it so it will be worthy of a try in future.

I like to stick with a basic Châteauneuf-du-Pape. La Fiole du Pape is a specific favorite but getting harder to find.

We are preferable to Cali red as well. Notably Pahlmeyer, Peju, Round Pond, Silver Oak are always around the house. We will mix in a Dunn Bros, Hall, Seghesio and Ridge with some regularity. We are equal opportunity between Cabs, Pinots, Blends and Red Zinfandels...

I have never in my 39 years been a wine drinker and only know the difference between white and red once they are in the glass. We were at a charity function this weekend (that was centered around wine so we were lost) and they had this on the tables amongst others that were several times it's price according to those in the know. But we really enjoyed this and I may seek it out for a little byob place we go to with friends from time to time.

I went through a wine "phase" but started getting really bad wine headaches so I kind of drifted away from it.

A little Fume Blanc this gorgeous evening...JRE is a small boutique style winery in California. Got to meet the owner and winemaker this past year at a wine dinner at my country club. Great guy and great wines!!!
