Would you flip you're DDII for a DD 40mm
For all the DDII owners out there, would you consider flipping you're DDII for a 40mm DD sometime in the future? Once there is a large variety of dials for the 40mm out there?

Based on pics, yes. But I want to see them side by side and in person.

No, I like the choco dial with numerals not diamond markers. If I didn't have the DDII I would take a serious look at the platinum glacier dial to see if it works in real life.

I don't own a DD and would love to. With small wrists like mine, if I had the DDII I would seriously consider flipping it for the new one. If you have big wrists I don't think it's a good idea to sell the one you already own. My 2c.

DDII and DD40 dial is the same, the variety you have in the discontinued model will be offered in the new model , and more.

i really like the way the 36mm looked (the classic), but i felt it was too small for me.
the 40 appears to be more similar to the 36mm proportions… just when i thought the collection was satisfied… there may finally be a DD in my future that said, from pics, not sure i like the laser etched waffle pattern on the platinum version or laser etched anything for that matter, it feels like it has become the buzz word in watches, i would take a simple porcelain dial over what feels to me like the gimmicky laser stuff… of course i may end up liking it in person, you never know?

Purely academic for me as I don't own a DD2...if I was in the market for a DD I would probably go for a DD40 when there are a few more dial options to choose from. But if I had a DD2, I would stand pat with that.

I just bought a platinum DD11 2 weeks ago . I loved it then and I still love it now.
But.... Had I known the new version was immanent would I have waited and spent the money on the new 40 mm version? The honest answer is ........maybe , maybe not Ok it's got the new movement , but mine runs at less than + 2 seconds . I don't need the increased power reserve because I wear it every day. It's already got the ceramic pins in the links. It's out of proportion , unwieldy in the eyes of naysayers but a thing of beauty to me. The new smaller version seems to be a step away from the sporty /dress watch back to a solely dress watch So in a answer to the Op, no I reckon I will keep and cherish mine |

To me, precious metal watch is about statement. The only point of using PM for a watch (when you have lighter, harder, stronger ss like 904L) is about prestige (either that or you simply want to exercise your wrist muscles).
So I prefer heavier than lighter PM watch. That 1 mm doesn't do much in terms of looks, and in terms of weight it is almost guaranteed that DD40 will be lighter (less gold, less platinum). The only attraction of DD40 is the new movement. Improved accuracy is not really a big deal to me, as the 3156 movement is just as accurate as I want it to be. It's not my daily wearer so I regularly have to set the time up everytime anyway. The bigger attraction is that extra 20hrs power reserve. But that's about it. So my answer is: no, for now I will not flip my DD2 for DD40... I wouldn't pay more for something that is actually smaller, however I want to try the DD40 on - my opinion may change, but for now I'm quite certain about it. |

I flipped my 37mm for the 41mm ...
I couldn't imagine going back down... I have never understood the proportion complaints... I find the bigger fluted bezel to reflect so much more light... It's magic on the wrist...

One more The only thing I will say, is that if discontinuing this model hurts resale... Then I'll jump at the first discounted platinum DD2 up for grabs

Gorgeous watches... all of them!! Especially the platinum with concentric dial.
Those who said the proportions are off, bezel too big (it's a day date, not a daytona... d'oh) and so on and so on, all those critics. Chances are that they don't have it, never really got the chance to appreciate this masterpiece. I hope and will be glad if indeed DD2 is discontinued. It will be that much more special as we won't have more supply coming. As for resale value, I don't really care - I have stocks, bonds, for investment. I bought the DD2 for enjoyment. I can't wait to see DD2 next to DD40, and then ask any average Joe who doesn't know a thing about DD lineup - who's the big brother? |

If I already owned a ddii I would not flip for the sake of not wanting to lose money. If I was buying for the first time and had the option to choose I would pick the 40

No way would I flip. I think the 41mm is perfect, and would not go smaller.

If I were to have spent that much on a watch, I would have done it because I loved it. No way a new model would take away that love.
Especially if bought new, I don't see why I would take the hit of a new car just to flip for 1 mm less. Sure, the new movement seems nice on paper, but the DDII's movement is more than fine. So.... I couldn't vote, as none of the choices match up with me. |
