Is the 16610 considered vintage?

How long before the 16610 is considered "vintage??" Any "criteria" before a watch is considered vintage??

Not quite vintage. I've heard many different rules from qualitative (matte dial, plexi crystal, lug holes), to the 30 year minimum. Depends on who you're talking to.

As this reference only finished in 2010, it won't be considered a vintage reference for many years, but a very early, 1989 model could be (depending on who you ask).

To be honest the word vintage is used far to loosely here.

Well, I believe the 16610 was introduced in 1987-88, so it's approaching 30 years. Throw in a version with all tritium dial/hands/insert pearl, along with an open 6 and 9 date wheel, and I'd say you could consider some of them close to vintage. (Borrowed photo of a very early 16610.)

I agree, these early ones are close, but last/later ones... not really.

My L serial 16610 has gone from feeling new to vintage. I'm in agreement that most 16610s aren't in the vintage category - also, agree that the gilt surround (white gold) hour markers are a non-vintage quality across the board.

However, having had it as my daily wearer and seeing that it's a very early 16610 ('89), I have noticed a mild brightening of the dial. Not necessarily turning grey, but not as deep as a black that it was when I first got it. Depends on the light at least.

Tritium hour markers are bright as the day the were probably first applied (again, it is my daily wearer -- and believe me I wear it hard and in hot weather). But the tritium pearl on the insert has developed a wonderfully cream/mild-tan color.

Anyways, I absolutely love it.

My 16610 is from 89, non sel tritium dial but the vintage deal breaker it has a sapphire crystal. So I guess it's a classic!
