RSC NY Crystal Replacement
I'll be in NYC this week and curious for those who have taken their low mag watches to RSC NY for crystal replacement (paid or otherwise) can you just walk in and have them do it on the spot or how difficult is it? I can imagine their saying come back in three weeks and we'll talk to you and then they'd keep it for some lengthy period of time. Any feedback much appreciated.

I'm fairly certain one member here had his done (I think it was Sarko) in Europe while he waited. If my memory is correct, the crystal most certainly can be done on the spot but not sure they will. Singapore RSC told me they wouldn't do mine while I waited as they had to ensure that the magnification was spot on before releasing it back to me.
One piece of advice I can offer though, be sure to take your warranty card with you and take plenty of pictures of your watch before handing it over. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I think I'm just going to wear something else and ask generally about the process of how they would do it so I can present the situation without a debate. I will let everyone know what they say.

I have a watch in their for crystal replacement right now.
1) Rolex will ask you for a warranty card if it is a recent watch. If the card isn't fill out properly with the purchaser's name, they will ask for a copy of the purchase receipt. 2) A crystal replacement takes 5-10 days depending on the watch (e.g. a SD4000 or DSSD will take longer as they require additional testing due to the water proofness). 3) A crystal is $100-$500+ depending on the watch, the Milgauss green crystal or the DSSD crystal being the more expensive ones. Labor will be at least $75. 4) Depending on the condition of the watch and what time it is keeping, Rolex may insist to do the crystal replacement only as part of a complete overhaul. Best of luck! |

Chronolex,
I recently had the crystals replaced on both my BLNR and Explorer Polar at RSC NY. I went in and they made copies of my warranty card and I dropped off the watches. A few days later I was called and told the crystals were found to be within mag specs, but gave me the option of replacing them free of charge as they were under warranty. Of course, no one admitted the magnification was off on both watches.

As an update...
I went to RSC NYC today and talked to the rep at the counter and explained the situation. She said she'd never heard of the mag issue but they would try to address it to make me happy. She was clear that any effort to change it would only be to make me happy rather than an admission of any actual problem. I said fine I just want it addressed. She kept it and said they'd replace it and return it to me within a month. Will advise of any further updates. |

That's a very good point you make there, Peter. Surely that is the best option. I'd rather keep the low mag cyclops than having my new watch taken apart for no good reason.

As an update, I heard from RSC today and they said although the crystal is in spec and there's nothing wrong with it, they understand the issue and feel confident they can improve on the current magnification. They're going to work on it and send it back to me on an undefined timeline although likely within a month. I told them that I have been very loyal to the brand since I was 14 and I have been an extreme Rolex enthusiast and collector for the past couple of decades, and I hope they don't say or do anything to jeopardize the very positive feelings I have toward them. They said they could tell all of that from our discussion and they appreciated my loyalty and wanted to make me happy. I'm really very excited and can't wait to get it back. When that happens, I will post before and after pics.
