Reactions to your Rolex

Any other reactions lately?

Recently someone asked my if my watch was real gold. I just said, "What do you think?"

I don't get much attention from people with my Explorer II except for the occasional other Rolex wearer.

However, when I go to NYC I usually buy 2 or 3 crappy replicas off the street for 10-15 dollars each, those get noticed by the uneducated.

As for myself I have a tendency to look at everyone's watch to I do notice if it is an authentic Rolex, depending on the situation my may begin a discussion about it.

In the 8 months since I got my GMTIIC, I've had one person make a comment. And it was a teenager at the mall who was standing behind me in line at the pretzel counter. I was wearing a sport coat and he immediately noticed that it was a new GMT, just from the small amount of the watch and crown peeking out from the jacket sleeve. Go figure.

Personally, I notice many "Rolex's", but never make a comment. Mainly because I refuse to make a positive comment on a watch I have not, or cannot verify as authentic. And unless it is being worn by a friend or associate, I also thinks it shows a lack of class.

And I catch many people checking out my watch. And for every person I catch, I bet there are 10 I don't. I don't know if they notice my watch because it a damn fine looking watch, or because they recognize the Rolex look.

I would guess that many upwardly mobile men know what a sub looks like, as they probably been checking them out at ADs. However, the new GMT does not have the same initial look as the sub or 16710.

Honestly, I don't really care if people notice or comment on my watch. Keep in mind that we here are a "little" obsessive about our watches (Rolexs). I think many people who own Rolex's don't really think much about it. And to make a comment only exposes yourself as a WIS.

I get no comments for the SS Daytona. My boss even asked me if it was broken because the "second hand wasn't moving"....(tach was at rest)

Usually, the questions/comments are - "Wow, is that a Rolex ?" or "Nice Rolex !"

Only comments I got on a Rolex were on my TT blue sub, but that watch is long gone.

I do get comments on my Movado tungsten-carbide watch. Something about the hard metal watches that I just like. (I have a Rado as well that is tungsten carbide)

Be it my Movado, Timex, Omega or Rolex, most people don't notice my watch or even care. But that is fine with me as I wear my watches for me. And I notice (appreciate) them every time I strap one on my wrist.

Yeah the only people who would comment me about my watches were other Rolex owners or a WIS.

Other then that, I may just get the occasional stare. Sometimes I can notice people staring at my wrist from the corner of my eye.

I never really had a complete stranger mention about the watch I was wearing except for my dentist one time but I learned not to wear a Rolex to the dentist anymore.

I recently spent a few weeks renovating my late BIL house in London.
I managed to leave my watch there when i'd finished one Friday and wouldn't be returning till Monday. (empty house).
I called wifes sister to ask if she could pick it up. No probs. Wife phoned later to see if she'd got it.
She replied 'whats all the fuss, is it a rolex or something?' 'Yes, it is actually' says the wife!!! Silence. 'Oh, i'll go and get it now'.
She kept it safe and sound in her bra drawer. I now wear it round my mouth!!!

I had a customer comment on my DD just this weekend. He asked me if mine was real becuase I guess he said he sold fake Rolexs in China Town. He even had the guts to ask me to take off my watch and hand it over to him so he could feel how heavy it was...

I didn't mind but he shouldn't have said Rolex when all of my peers and other customers were around.

That was the first time I was embarassed to have a Rolex.

Don't know don't care. I try not to notice people and just do my thing. I am always polite to everyone but sometimes just want to be left alone. To me they are just watches.

BigHat aka Matt, have you ever posted pics of your VC Overseas Chrono? That's one watch I lust over, especially the white dialed version. As I will probably never own one, how about a few pics, or a steer to an old thread where you have...

As far as comments go... Having owned Rolexes for over 15 years, I've can count them on my left hand. Nobody seems to notice. I will get an awkward stare now and again. Recently my Aunt, who is not wanting for money in the least, learned that I owned a Rolex. I showed her mine and she was shocked to see it wasn't diamond encrusted and garish. She thought all Rolexes were and cost 5 figures or more. Everybody may know the name but very few know any more than that...

You dont get asked too much in my industry, but i occasionally get asked when at home. Normally something like, 'your getting paid too much, or,can i give you $15 for it? or why do you spend that kind of money on a watch, my favourite was....."I heard they glow in the dark, thats cool...is it true?"

I wore my SS oyster Date for 9 years............NO comments

I have worn my SS Sub Date 7 years......No comments except from other Sub wearers (about 5 in all)

I agree................... people don't care unless they are a WIS

I'm more likely to comment on another persons watch.

Now back on topic, did anyone see Good Morning America the other day? They had a story about two attractive women that trolled casinos and high class hotels looking for single middle aged men wearing ROLEX watches.

They would approach them and using paints, powders and feminine ways would cloud their minds. As they were having drinks the women would drug the poor souls. When the men regained their senses the Rolexes and their wallets were gone, most never reported the crime. So some women do take notice if a man wears a Rolex.

Yep, me too. In here where I live, almost everyone don't know about Rolex sport. A few people who's collect watch maybe know. All they now about Rolex is if the model like DJ or DD with tt or all gold. That's a Rolex in their mind.
