Day Hike with an Explorer I

Went on a day hike the other day, Oquirrh mountains, Utah. Took the Explorer I along, seemed fitting. Though I would share some of the scenery.

Here is a look at where we were headed, up to the highest peak on the left there.

Along the trail, base of the mountain. Starting out at about 5000 ft. ASL.

Start of the final push, last leg before summit, about 7500 ft. ASL. Notice the little abandoned cabin there...

A look around about 800 ft. below summit.

Looking up, almost there...

Finally, reached the top...no other tracks up here. About 9380 ft. ASL.

A great day to spend climbing with the Explorer I. Can't wait to take it out again.

It was an all day deal. Took several hours, half a day, to get to the summit and then we descended about a third of the way down (below snow line), and ate...finally, had some hot chow cooked on a small climbing stove. And some hot tea, what a treat when you're famished. Actually the nicest part was the trail system in the first leg. Nice cliffs and canyon views as the trail snakes through there. Some narrow trail passes, so you have to be careful and pay attention. About a 800 - 1,000 ft straight drop on one side. After that, no trails so you have to plan your route.
