Apple Watch and the inevitable...
What will we do when technology demands that we have an Apple Watch or something similar to complete our daily tasks....

Technology does not demand. We demand things from technology. I'll pass on the iWatch for now.

We'll have an apple watch on one wrist and a Rolex on the other.
I hope that day never comes. |

I wouldn't get it. I don't really need to see my text messages and emails on my watch. I have iphone, iPad, and macbook pro for that...

I personally, don't want to add another "smart" device. One should be enough. |

I believe the days that technology will "demand" us to wear a smart watch is far far away... It will probably happen but for now I will not spend money on an apple watch or android watch.

I would never get an iWatch so I can text or call. I do think it's a great tool for fitness and health tracking. I may get one for that reason alone. I would only wear it while working out.

I am letting my tech savvy son beta test. If after 6-12 months he says I should get one then I might. I am a through back who still wonders at the skill and craftsmanship a mechanical watch displays.👍⌚️

It's not for me to be honest. I sat in a meeting today where the guy next to me was wearing one and checked 2 or 3 times for messages etc. it did not look professional and certainly didn't inspire me to get one.
Its almost like the 80's version of a pen with a clock in it. For me at least I already have a pen (iPhone) and I have a clock (Rolex) I don't need them combining just yet. |

It would be cool if there were an app to make the face different wrist watches, particularly more complicated ones.

As a watch guy I will be wearing my Rolex watches and I don't need gadgets like the Apple watch because my smartphone can handle all the task that I need.

I'm guessing the same thing that will happen when we stop posting non Rolex topics in the Rolex forum.

As a rolex enthusiast, I'm going to play devil's advocate here. Everyone is arguing that your smartphone can do anything the the Apple Watch can do. Well, what about your Rolex? I'm pretty sure your smartphone, car, computer, oven, microwave, etc. can tell you the time. That didn't stop us from buying them.

Google glasses, smart watch, smart phone, whatever. That'll be a loooong way off, though.

The power of Apple Watch will be on its apps. If the apps grow and mature quickly like for iPhone and iPad, it will be everywhere before some people even had time to realize. Those will be the people who ask, what happened!!??

The apple watch is great for people who want to spend money on a watch that isn't a good at telling time.

Been a Pebble owner since I was an original Kickstarter Funder. I can tell you there are times it is a good tool.
But if you don't make long-haul road trips, or run, or walk, or ride a bike, or work outside in the rain (where you'd rather not pull out your iPhone) - then you'd not know why a remote screen on your wrist is a good thing. I'm holding off on the Apple Watch for now since I already have 90% of what it is with my Pebble. Plus I have 7-days of battery life and it is waterproof - better than the Apple Watch. I've always been an early adopter of technology and I'm excited to see what the Apple Watch offers. Do I love my mechanicals? Sure. That being said, I don't believe that I should close myself off to the possibilities that exist and may exist in the future. The variety of things that one can do now with a smartwatch, and may be able to do in the future, looks fantastic... Mapping, mobile payments, messaging, phone calls, etc... If that means that I stop wearing my Rolex? Well, so be it. You just may see my Explorer in the For Sale section soon... |

Smart watches will go the way of digital watches.
They may re-emerge eventually, but after the novelty wears off, they will be synonymous with the term "dork." Apologies to Tom.

Apple Watch and the inevitable...
I saw them at the Apple Store today and held one, played with some functions.. Cool ? Ya ...but I wasn't "oh my goodness I must get one"..
At 44 my eyes are also not what they used to be and to strain them constantly to read the iwatch I won't do. Also, I am a heavy email user/receiver.. that iwatch would buzz and vibrate non stop. So much so that I would probably get annoyed at some point. Just my current 2 cents.. |

The size of the watch face on these gimmick watches is enough preclude them from being a threat to either conventional watches, nor Iphones.

Technology demands nothing from me. I'll wear my superior Rolex over the Applewatch anyday, unless I were to ever recieve a gift containing the solid gold Apple watch, and even then I'd take a wrist chot and then put t in it's box and lock it in the safe deposit box, and put my Rolex back on.

The bigger the phones get, the more convient it will be to have a minature version of it that is easily accessible. I feel like we're all going to be carrying around IPads at some point and a minature version (either on the wrist, glasses, or even just another pocket sized screen) will become important for some people. Obviously the whole population won't go this route, but I think it's going to be pretty common. Among the WIS... Probably much less so.
