I am in no way an expert, but shouldn't it have some kind of military markings on the back?

For this model, the serial number should be engraved on the inside of the case back as well as between the lugs....and it is....

We'll know pretty quick. If it is gone in 24 hours it was legit, if it is still for auction in 24 hours it is not.

Second hand looks dodgy to me. That's about 8 grand right there. Bit of dial damage, too.

Interesting that they are showing a shipping price to the US... that would make me suspect about their knowledge of Rolex.

Caseback is stamped first quarter of 72. I was born January of 72. Don't know if I will be able to resist.

appears to be legitish , serial is from a recognised batch , but obviously issue numbers have been removed from case back demolishing its value.

as mentioned the seconds fingers is fake, and that plus lume on hands brings into question all the hand and i would want it in hand to form an opinion regarding the other two hands.

dial and bezel damaged as pointed out.

Yes, what Jed says.

Might well end up finding its way to the person who is most desperate for parts, damaged or not.

I have a few from this batch, one with a number very, very close to this one.

Not the most impressive listing for a watch of this nature.

Requested a prior inspection of this watch...

before placing a bid and he refused an inspection. I live 30km from Richmond Hill Ont Canada where this item is located. Is inspection refusal normal when selling an expensive item? His ebay ad says 'free pick up'.

any reputable auction house or seller I know has encouraged people to look at an item prior to purchase. Buyer satisfaction should be his #1 priority with this watch. or he could end up with a pissed off buyer who backs out at the end due to undisclosed problems. Plus on something this expensive, it'd be comforting to know the seller physically has the item and isn't just selling this for some third party and taking a cut.

Greekbum here on the forum probably has 7 or 8 of them (I'm only half-kidding, as he has just about everything else;) )

Looks pretty good to me. Seconds hand is probaby the Omega Seamaster 300 one; or possibly a speedmaster one. They are similar, but not *quite* right...

You have to be damn careful with these things. I have handled a fake milsub which was a real 5513 re-worked by a very handy watchmaker and restorer. He did it for a project and it was very neat indeed. The guy was not selling it but was pretty proud of his handywork and I could see why. He had handled real milsubs. As pointed out above you really want to be buying from someone known and reputable and be able to see proof of the provenance. These are big bucks investments.

as Jed says, not a full spec milsub.
I sent the seller a question this morning about shipping to the USA. Richmond Hill is not far from a US border, so I asked if he/she would be willing to travel into the US in order to ship to a US address.

Just heard back: the answer is yes.

Hello,
I am seller of this watch. The professional guys know these are two types: with number on the case back and without number which has engrave inside of the case back. You can find it in Rolex book too.

I welcome inspection and verification of the description at the time of pick up for final winner. In addition, I am ok with payment at the pick-up time.

Regards

Thankyou for joining us. Would you be able to explain a little more clearly what you are saying about the numbers on the outside of the case back?

May I also ask for the name of the book to which you are referring ?

Thankyou,

Haywood Milton, UK

Well, you know, I did buy a full set of original hands just last year, and another one the year before that. But, you will need to be more lucky than good, as the saying goes.

This isn't that unusual. Sure there is risk. But there are a number of sellers outside the U.S. who sell and ship Rolex's to US customers.

Shipping cost is one thing, for me the bigger issue is the listing states 100% original but the seconds hand does not appear to be.

With what little I know I am confortable saying the seconds hand is not Rolex. Probably Omega and Probably for the Speedmaster. Very similar but not exactly the same.
