Icon20 Independent Watch Dealers - How do they do it?

How do independent watch dealers aquire brand new watches like the ones that are sold in the classifieds section?
And how are some of them able to offer the warranty information with the buyer's name on it? I thought that one's name could only be entered if purchased from an AD.

I understand that a lot of independent watch dealers have been able to build relationships with various ADs, but I guess I'm just unclear how they source their watches and products and are able to make a profit from their sales from reduced prices.

I'm new here and if anyone can shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

1. They have special relationships with certain ADs.
2. They buy LOTS of watches at a time.
3. Many ADs are simply unable to sell their monthly inventory from Rolex, so this is where the trusted sellers help them and help those of us who choose to do business with them.

I would imagine that an AD must buy a certain number of watches a quarter or year. Rolex also most likely would require they take a number of less desirable models in order to get the more desireable ones. Also, like an auto franchise, the more they buy the better treatment they receive. So this may result in NOS or unsold models piling up which they sell off at or below cost on the secondary market in order to free up capital to purchase models that are easier to sell. I cant think of an other explanation. Some believe we are in a Rolex bubble at present. A meme that has been making the rounds for some time now.

I'd like to add to the OP's question.

Is there something wrong with this site? http://www.swissluxury.com/rolex-wat...d-bracelet.htm

If I buy the WG 116509 sa from them (prefer to arrange pickup if possible) what am I missing from buying it at an AD? Because as it stands, my AD is a joke for the WG Daytona.

Don't imagine one of the dealers will chime in here.

Seems like a cool job though.

I thought the same thing but is it really true? Its hard to imagine that a seller would buy up a lot of watches that are slow movers at the AD.

Easier to sell some models when you can sell worldwide over the internet. Retail ADs are not allowed to do this.

ADs will give a hefty discount to the re-seller for the slow movers, sometimes close to their dealer cost. In addition, the re-seller also get some popular models like the SS Daytona, GMT BLNR, etc as a package deal.

Check out DavidSW's website and look at the variety of watches he has. Some fast movers some slow movers, all brands. Also, I am sure that they deal with AD's worldwide and are able to play the currency market/exchange rates to maximize profit.

It would be fascinating to do for a living, maybe a second career after I retire??
